Quick~what would you take for a 3yo on a 9 hour flight! - Page 2

many of my favorites have been listed
I like *disposable* toys, ie, things that don`t matter if they get lost

playdough
pasta for lacing(can also do Os cereal)
ribbon/string
old crayons
small notebook/pen
tin foil, lots of fun to smoosh into shapes...
origami paper for folding

question about the DVD player, how long do the batteries last?? I thought about taking one but it seemed like it would conk out waaaaaay to quickly.
We do a 12 hour flight, few hour layover and then another 1 hour flight.
I will be doing this with an almost 4 year old and a 6 month old this summer.

Presents/surprises YES! Wrapped -- NO!! If anything in your luggage raises security interest, they will make you stand there and upwrap every last stinking thing. While your child stands there and howls because he thinks someone else will get his presents. Ask my how I know this...

I too use the portable DVD player. Be sure to pack the recharger and find someplace in the airport to charge the batteries. For longer than about a 4 hour flight, buy and charge an extra battery. Prepare kids for the fact that they may have to be turned off mid-movie due to landing or whatnot.

Other than that I can't think of anything not mentioned.

May sound strange, but band aids. My DD enjoyed peeling apart the individual wrappings and then sticking them all over herself and me. Also, little tubs of paydough or modeling beeswax. Plastic scissors are good, plus some tape. We would cut up catalogs of toys or magazines and tape it onto paper. Hope the journey goes well. I took my two dds ( 4 and 1) back to the US last year from Australia, by myself, for a family wedding. I just got on the plane knowing I would eventually make it to the other side and not to expect to get any sleep until I got there.

It depends of the DVD player KathinJapan, in the layovers DH charge it, but ours lass around 6 hours.
And we have this one:

We fly once or like last year twice a year to Europe.
I personally like the layovers

DD1 is 5 years old and she likes to read, we're taking some piper cleaners this year and some other stuff from advices I got here in MDC.
