The more I think that "gentle discipline" should be called "practical/logical parenting". I have always tried to get on my kids' level and understand the reasoning behind what they need/want/are playing, etc. And I've always tried to put myself in their place (#1 reason why we never did CIO, I wouldn't ever want to be treated like that).

I think that's pretty accurate, yeah. Also "compassionate and kind parenting" makes sense as well.

I tend to call it "conscious parenting." Though, I guess there are plenty of parents who consciously choose cruel methods. Still though, I feel it fits pretty well, because "consciousness" for me entails thinking through and rejecting old paradigms, being aware of my child's needs, and putting myself in his shoes.

I also like to think of it as conscious parenting. To me, it also means that I am aware when I fall short...giving myself room to do that (basically forgiving myself), learning from it and moving on. This has been huge for me lately. I'm trying so hard to move away from the guilt.
But I think being gentle with ourselves as well is so important on this journey.

Another way I have described it is "mindful parenting".
