ds7 plays outside, walks the dog, cleans his room, plays outside, goes shopping with me, plays with his friends, attends a science club 2x a month- goes to the library- play webkinz- plays with Lego stuff,or matchbox cars- pokemon cards, watches cartoons or animal shows-visits Gramma-counts his allowance... plays video games, sometimes he wants to do math workbooks,or practice his handwriting, draws and traces pictures, plays with playdoh-likes to help cook, and clean-teases the dog, gets really, really, really muddy every day to the tune of 3-4 outfit changes daily, and the shoes,oh,forget the shoe decimation!
he loves playtime, and we spend a lot of time going to various play activities w/brother for social time-
but mostly he's a wild thing who loves the outdoors and animals- oh, he spends hours daily pretending to be some animal or other, this week his passion is koalas-
just every day stuff...we're heading to the beach tomorrow,he's been dying to look for new shells-

My ds (8 years old for only today - he turns 9 tomorrow!) did the following today:

Woke up and played with Lego and K'nex for an hour
Ate breakfast while reading his book
Played inside with his sister (on-going pretend game involving plush toys and Calico critters)
Played outside in the mud (again, with his sister).
Went for a hike with the 3 of us to the waterfall, had lunch there, walked home holding my hand
At home, he read more of his book, finished it and started another.
Played on the swing for at least half hour - if not 40 minutes. It was obviously very satisfying today!
Watched an animated movie dh downloaded from itunes.
Practiced his violin for 30 minutes.
Dug out all his summer clothes and rediscovered old favorites.
Spent time in his room doing goodness knows what... I suspect more reading, playing with action figures and drawing.

Imaginative play from morning until late at night. If no toys are around, then each child has two hands and they become Oobi and Moobi and whatever else their names are. We have plenty of toys around though, and did you know that you can make all manner of characters and animals with lego pieces, too?

I have two children though, and I suspect that having one child (or one older child) might be a bit trickier. My children have almost never said they were bored in their entire lives though.

In her spare time, my 8 y.o. DD likes to play video games--WoW, Sims, Zoo Tycoon. She watches her brother play video games... she also sometimes plays with the baby or reads. She loves science experiments and watching TV, too...

My DS makes EVERYTHING from Legos. I thought for a while that maybe I was depriving him by not getting the action figures he feels the need to make with the Legos . We have some Lego Hedgehogs that he then recreates Sonic the Hedgehog video games with, a whole collection of Lego Kittens (I don't know why?), and a bunch of Lego men who are now Star Wars characters. And we have houses and buildings for them, too. I'd say Lego play takes up 75% of our day.

My oldest mostly plays with his little brother (28 mos younger). They play outside, go on treasure hunts, walk to the local pond (aka mud puddle :LOL) to look for tadpoles, play with the dogs, help me bake a couple times per week, help with breakfast and lunch, do dishes. The each have an art book that they color or draw in a few times per week. Honestly, they watch a bit of TV every day unless I declare it a No-TV day, they are just now allowed to play games on the internet if I'm in the room to hlep when they get lost (I'm considering getting a webkins for each of them). There is time reserved for reading each night. My oldest is allowed to leave his light on after the youngest's bedtime so that he can read. Often the youngest ends up in bed with him and they read together.

We are pretty much unschooling this year so this is our day every day, with a few errands and informal playdates thrown in. We don't have any classes or anything yet, but we're looking into scouts, piano and some sort of sport for next year.
