How can you safely ship breastmilk?

Short story: I'm having supply issues due to pregnancy. My 10mo DD is having weight issues from not getting enough food. She eats some solids and we've tried to supplement with formula, but she doesn't do very well with it and gets frustrated with the bottles. SIL is pumping for her 2mo DS and has a ton of milk left over. They live 8hrs away and we're visiting with them now. Yesterday, DD happily guzzled down at least 10oz of SIL's EBM and was so content afterwards. She nursed well that night and seems to be doing really well today with both nursing and EBM so we were thinking of having SIL ship excess EBM to me, at least until my baby is born at the end of July.

The question is, how can we safely ship breastmilk from her house to me? I thought dry ice was prohibited for personal shipping but I don't know if I'm right about that...either way, where would you get something like that, and who will ship it? What are the costs involved? Any other info you have would be great too, thank you

double bag the milk into ziplock bags...take milk to a fedex shipping place...they will get you a box that fits what you are going to ship, get you the dry ice, and package it safely for you to ship...

it is *not* cheap...when i was paying for milk to ship to me, the original price was about $20 for the box, dont remember for the dry ice, and i paid about $220 for a little over 500oz...frozen milk is heavy...

peace...
