It's kinda funny, kinda offensive, but it's also quite true. I have known several men who did not question circumcision that was done to them, or didn't even really think about the fact that they were. One was not sure if he was or not. Sad but true. It seems such a unquestioned thing in our culture, especially the last couple of generations. Why would men not question this more? Is it shame? Taboo? Or do they just not care?

Yes, it shows not only the ignorance a lot have about what circ actually is but the ignorance a lot of people here (US) have about normal penises.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell. A few weeks back there was a tread by a woman who's BF's parents died while he was little and they didn't know if he had a loose circ or a short foreskin.

What bothers me most about that article is that another man would feel the need to make any other man the laughing stock of others. How are we ever supposed to get past mutilating penis's in this culture when they are such a source of humor and are used to exert shaming feelings upon another.

I just don't get it.

Maybe it's just a "boy thing" but don't men grow out of that kind of behavior?

We recently had our second baby, another girl. My dh said to me shortly after she was born (like a week) "I'm glad we had another girl. Girls are so cool." Several times since then he's said how he thinks girls have it easier in our culture. He has said that they don't have the sorts of pressures on them that boys do. I'd argue that they have different pressures and I do think that they are easier to deal with - at least in my experience.

I think it's horrible that a boy has to deal with worrying about his penis practically his whole life. It makes me very sad.

In some places circumcision is NEVER talked about. I had been sexually active for years when I met DH( he's intact, and explained to me what was missing for guys previously thought were "normal") and had only a vague idea of what a circ was. The only reference I'd ever heard were Mel Brooks type bris jokes on TV. "Snip the Tip", a "little off the top" and such. I agree that it's sad, but I understand how it could happen that this poor guy had NO CLUE!!

Though I've never heard the term "meat tulip". It's a little derisive, but DH will laugh.
