already thinking...slings! - Page 4

I'm bringing back the thread that inspired my recent baby carrier obsession!

I just bought my first wrap - a didymos indio off the fsot forum at TBW. Might come next week. I'm hoping my 3.5 year old will let me try some wrapping with her. Maybe she's too big.

I expect we'll still use our ring slings (Maya wrap and OTSBH) with the new baby. I'm thinking of trying some DIY wraps (a thin gauze one, and a Moby-like stretchy, maybe), and a homemade Mai Tai style carrier. I was amazed at how many carriers some posters have in their stashes, but I've caught the bug, and feel like I want to try one of everything.

I'm having so much fun with this. It's a lot more fun that my other nesting projects - cleaning out closets/garage/basement .

Has any of you used mai-tais from babyhawk.com? I am thinking about one with headrest. How good are these for newborns? I have a huge issues with carrying anything on my one shoulder, even my purse gives me troubles when it is medium-heavy, so I have to have something that goes on both shoulders, and quite easy to put on. I lloked at ergo, but it looks like with newborns it gets complicated.

Hi ladies,
I just wanted to chime in on the Baby K'tan. It's actually my aunt's company so lucky me I got two for free. And honestly, I love it! I also have a hotsling which worked great in the beginning but now that my 8 mo old is getting heavier I love the two loops for support and I love the new colors.
Definitely check it out!
Let me know if you have any quesitons I have tried almost every type of sling...

Has anyone used a New Native carrier? A good friend of mine has a S and a M and I've watched her use it and it looks SO easy. She nurses in it constantly and that's what I'm looking for. Anyone?

Babyhawks-IMO a very comfy, well-made MT. I am much more of a wrap fan personally because I find them more supportive with a big, heavy child and more snuggly with a little baby. I also don't like the strappiness of MTs. They don't fold up nice and neat like wraps...but I'm anal about that.

New Natives-I have never personally tried one but I always see them at used stores and on ebay, which leads me to believe that they are not as comfy as a lot of other carriers out there. I am also very bothered by the position of the baby in their advertisements. For optimal comfort and safety babies should be at or above your navel. In the New Native ad the baby is hanging REALLY low. I'm not sure if that is how it fits everyone, but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable like that.

Have you all read the reviews or visited the forums about choosing carriers at thebabywearer.com? They can be great help in deciding which carrier to buy. Of course I'm always willing to give my opinion but it is just my opinion.

This won't help the rest of you, but Doulamom7, you need a road trip to Tree City Diapers in AnnArbor, they have bunches of slings, etc to try on. I think their website is treecitydiapers.com, but I'm not sure. Maybe we can meet up there...I've been wanting to go for a long time.

For the rest of you, who want mobys or a woven wrap why not just make one? Completely no-sew if you want. Here's a post I made about just that thing in this thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=745127

I'm also in the process of sewing myself a faux moby-d and some more mei tais. I've been using ringslings since my first baby 14 years ago (Thank you LLL!) Sewing babywearing items is almost as addictive as sewing diapers!
