Another yeast infection thread.... I can't find the old one...

I know there have been lengthy disscusions about Yeast Infection so forgive me for another one but I cant find the others.

I'm not even sure that I have or am developing one. I've had them before, I generally know what they feel like (AWEFUL) but in the past they have also come on much quicker....

might be TMI ahead:

Since Thursday things feel kind of sore and itchy down below, but not excruciating like I have experienced before. I dont really have any funky discharge so it's hard to tell in general. I'm been trying to eat some yogurt everyday and I THINK some one had mentioned cranberry juice...

What other suggestions do we have out there to prevent it from getting worse (if that is what it is)? Are all the remedies some thing you eat or is there something topical (besides 7 day monistat)... or should I go ahead and treat it with something like Monostat before it gets worse, out of hand and stubborn?

Dont know what to do.... but DESPERATELY dont want to be getting a nasty Yeast Infection at the end of pregnancy!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

White Wax,
I don't have any special remedies to offer, but I wanted to say that I too wasn't sure what I had. I was dry and itchy, but no discharge, nothing smelly and (BEWARE TMI) the itch was mostly up near my clitoris, not at all in my vagina. I haven't had more than 2 or 3 yeast infections in my life but this wasn't like either of those.

I've been taking probiotics regularly, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice and eating plenty of yogurt. Plus I tried yogurt, then garlic down there, a homeopathic treatment and nothing seemed to make any difference. Since that sort of thing has worked for me in the past I began to think maybe it wasn't yeast.

What finally made me do the monistat 7 was the aftermath of the antibiotics that the OB insisted I take after a cold left me with a lingering cough. I got drier and itchier, still no other symptoms.

Sure enough it must've been yeast. Wish I had just done the over the counter weeks ago 'cause now I feel fine.

Good luck whatever is going on. Nothing worse than an itchy cooch.

xo

thanks... glad to know I'm not crazy... maybe I'll just go ahead and try the monistat... it can't hurt anything right?

My hb mw had me insert 2 capsules of boric acid (she had them on hand but I suppose you could get them at a natural food store) each night for 2 nights. The second I inserted them, my itching went away (and I had it BAD -- none of my usual garlic, kefir things were working) and then it took a day for the discharge to be all gone. (There is discharge from boric acid too which is why she recommends inserting them before you go to bed so it isn't so messy). Caution about monistat 7 or any other fungicide: Fungicides can mess with your hormones. Best to stay away from them during pregnancy especially. I know conventional mw and ob 's always recommend them without reservation but I would be concerned about any hormone disrupting that they may do.

Acidopholus, unsweetened cranberry juice, yogurt, and cut way back on sugar (yeast feeds on sugar). If all else fails you can use an OTC yeast infection cream.

I have my first ever (ugh) right now and this is the plan:

Treating internally:
-acidopholis 2x a day (the kind you store in the fridge)
-garlic... 1 clove 3-4x a week in my food
-cranactin supplement 2x a day... I hate cranberry juice so it's easier for me (I also had a bit of bacteria in my urine so we're just getting it all out in one swoop, so I'm not sure if it's for the yeast or not)

Treating externally:
-tea tree oil or diluted tea tree oil + olive oil applied a few times a day as needed

If you try the tea tree oil, do so cautiously. I might just be extra sensitive, but I used a tea tree oil product made specifically for internal use for yeast infections once and it actually burned my vagina and labia raw. Seriously, it made me very cautious about what I'll put on those tender mucous membranes.

Ouch! I don't use it internally at all (I know exactly what you are talking about, the first time I used it it got too close to being internal and it burned like crazy) I dilute it with olive oil.. about half and half. That seems to help.
