Ikea matresses?

Thumbs up/down??

Finally convinced DH that we need a new bed...I'd rather a more natural one, and I see they have wool stuffed ones.

Thoughts? We will be cosleeping again in the fall, so I do have that in mind.

We got one, as we don't have a lot of money to spend. We like to sleep fairly hard, so we actually found their cheapest mattress the most comfortable one. We use it since 2 years. Everytime I change the bedlinens (every 10days), I turn the matress over... Works for us. No problems yet.

We had one and really liked it. One of the mid-range ones not the very cheapest, maybe the 2nd or 3rd least expensive one. It was actually really comfortable, almost more comfy than the fancy pillowtop we have now!

DD,6 yrs, has a foam one for her bunk bed. I like it because it's think and it means she has more "rail" on the bunkbed than if she were using a regular, thick, spring-type mattress. She loves it.

We got the medium priced one for the top bunk (where she usually sleeps) and the cheapest one for the bottom bunk (where she only sleeps if she's sick, falls asleep in the car and we have to move her to bed, or for guests) and she says they are both really comfy.

In fact, I have laid on both for long periods of time and I think they are awesome. They feel like really thick futon mattresses to me.

The coolest thing about them is, since they're bendable, you can more easily prop up the head of your bed if you need to for reflux, etc.

I think ours had springs and some sort of foamy padding?

We bought two foam ones a few years ago for bunk beds and they've held up great!

I was talking to someone at IKEA about this yesterday. Probably the least toxic mattress they have is the one with latex and silk and wool stuffing. They are still treated for fire retardancy (formaldehyde probably). In the cut away pieces of mattresses I saw, the cheaper mattresses have less stuffing than the pricier ones, which probably means that they off-gas less. For what it is worth -- every time I go through that section of IKEA my kids go a bit wacko, and my eyes begin to burn and my legs turn a bit rubbery (there is a slide in that section so we are usually there a while). The off gassing from all of that foam padding and everything else is BAD!!! Without going to organic mattresses, your best bet for less toxicity is probably a futon (but it will still have formadehyde). All that said, we bought a cheap IKEA mattress yesterday for my dd. I hate it, but I did it because it would take at least a year to save up for something better. And probably three years to save for an organic one! Gee, now that I wrote all of that, I really really hate having that mattress. AAAARRRGH!!!
