This pregnancy was my first. I had almost no warning of the impending labor. I went for a walk at 9 am and felt a tiny bit crampy, but it was so faint I barely noticed. At 12:30 pm, I was standing in the baby's room folding clothes and arranging things. I had a big contraction - I got all red in the face and teary-eyed. It came from nowhere! Before that point, I had wondered how I would tell the difference between a labor contraction and a BH contraction. But there was no mistaking - I knew FOR SURE that it was a real labor contraction. Just then, I had the urge to have a huge bowel movement, which I recognized as my body emptying itself for the big event. It was then that I saw some pink-ish tinged mucous for the first time (I never saw an actual "plug"). After that, things progressed very quickly. By 5 pm, I arrived at the birth center and was already 5 cm and 70% effaced. I had my little girl at 3:13 AM the next day. No prodromal labor here!
