I just went and read some birth announcements and stories at a mainstream baby site. OMG Why did I do that to myself!? It's crazy. There are interventions in every single one. Early labor, early inductions, early c-sections coming out of everywhere!

I forced myself to stop - I think I was just starving for some May 2007 birth stories! LOL But it's not worth it. I'll wait for y'all who have your babies to share yours, whenever you're ready.

I know what you mean! I am a very active member on a mainstream board that I have been apart of since 2001 and the stories, and topics just don't sit well with me but I do have friends there so I still participate The birth stories are not the best at all, almost the whole April DDC got induced!

I know what you mean! I can't stand to watch Baby Story and Birth Day on the Discovery channels, it makes me soooooo mad! They all are breaking the waters-don't you think the waters will break when the baby gives out the necessary hormones and pressure?! Then of course Pit follows, then epidural then everyone is baffled when there is 'failure to progress'. It's so predictable.

Anyway, I know some situations are approriate for these interventions, but with every birth on these shows I seem to see way too much 'work' to make these babies arrive. I was amazed that I really didn't have to push, that my body pushed the baby out almost on its own. I helped at the end of a push. Not what I was used to seeing

I'm right there with you. Between the birth stories and the little blinkies the ladies have that say things like "ffing, sleep training, circumcising mom" I just had to stop going to the other board. I don't like sitting around judging people..so now I just stay as far away as possible, because I really can't help myself :

I have yet to see those.

I come to this board to be based in reality and I am an administrator on a mainstream board My coworkers all know I post here and cannot figure it out. SIGH! I try not to judge the other ladies but sometimes I am just well feel like pulling out my hair.

Yes, that was it, I was not judging the women AS MUCH as the medical field in general, but yes it was like involuntary judgement going on as I read the water breaking, pitocin and epidural story over and over and it felt so icky. Not one of them mentioned birthing the placenta either. They did all mention APGARS - it's like a different formula for writing a birth story over there. Also, I don't think I read one where getting the epidural wasn't a really painful process that took more than one try!

i had my last spend the night date with dh last sat night, so we had access to a TV. When he was taking a shower i found a birth story on discovery i think. It was all about this awesome midwife who gave tips to new moms; eat right, keep exercising, focus on breathing and relaxing. This young mom on the show had a natural water birth in a birthing center. It was great, so unexpected to see on the tv...... and she was so pround of herself and appreciative of her midwife. Though i had to promptly change the channel afterwards b/c the next birth was scary from the begining. So they are out there, the good stuff. But i don't think it is worth the work wading through the mess to findit, but fun when you happen upon it...

OMG one woman in my BC on THAT site has a blinky that says It's formula, not RAT POISON.

Yes, well, that's good. You really shouldn't feed babies rat poison. Not the point here, though, is it now?

It's just amazing how many 'complications' there are in those birth stories. Thank goodness the doctor was there to save the baby!

You read the stories b/c it is like watching an accident. You don't want to look, but yet at the same time you can't look away. I do that all the time with A Baby Story or the Discovery Health ones. Now I'm off to find a mainstream board and see those crazy blinkies.

WOW that rat posion really bothers me! It just makes me sad that a mother would say that. I mean ok you ff but goodness why would you compare that to something t hat would kill your baby?

I too was curious so I went and read some too. I was sad how many were induced early like it was nothing! And how many were getting their membranes stripped at 36 weeks!!!!!!!!!! I mean THIRTY SIX weeks!! That is just too EARLY why would you risk your baby's health at 36 weeks??!! I mean I've been miserable but I'd never risk my baby!

Ok, I'll stop now b/c I'm crying and getting too upset.
