natural deoderant that works... - Page 20

Thank you everyone for your response, it has really enlightened me! After reading this whole thread and researching, looking around for several days I am going to try the thai spray for everyday, then make Hazelnut's homemade funk butter recipe with just a lot less BS for days when I know I will be sweating and out in the heat much more than normal. I'll let you know how it all goes. I have been using Secret clinical strength which actually works where as before all the other drug store brands only half way worked. BUT it never really washes off and since it's clinical strength I can't imagine how much more the chemicals are sitting on me.

Yikes!!! This brings back memories (rather painful) of an incident I had when using Degree Invisible Solid deodorant and having my underarms waxed on the same day. The deodorant didn't come off!

I had borrowed my fiance's new Degree deodorant and hurried off to my waxing appointment. Let me just say that it was as if I had applied "cement glue" to my underarms. My waxer had such an extremely, difficult time removing my underarm hair. After making several attempts at removing the wax strips with no success, she finally asked me what deodorant I had used that morning. I told her I was trying out a new invisible solid deodorant. She told me the invisible solids were the worst when trying to remove the waxing-it was sticking to my underarms like glue. She also advised me never to use that deodorant again when coming to another waxing appt.

It took more than double the time to remove my underarm hair! When I was finished, I was in serious pain; my underarms were so sore, swollen and tender. I decided right then and there, that I was done with the chemical laden commercial deodorants. Since I switched to using natural deodorants (crystal deodorants etc...) my underarm waxing is now fast and easy=no pain

There was nothing I could do to get rid of the smell; even soaking the stone in alcohol didn't do the trick. But the mist works just as well as the stone, and since the pump has no contact with my skin, I never need to worry about it starting to smell. I'm soooo happy with the mist!
Several other people complained about the crystal stones taking on a funky odor. Did you apply the deodorant to freshly showered underams? Or did you share it with others in your household? My fiance' and have I shared the roll-on (I know unhygienic) and it never smelled and a few times I did use his Pitrock push up stick and it never smelled.

Thai Crystal Deodorant Mist Users

I originally thought that the crystal deodorants were basically all alike: same product-just different brand. However, after reading some reviews of this product on amazon.com, I think I maybe wrong. Several reviewers claim they can go at least a day w/o reapplying and they can wear their shirts two or three times before having to wash them.

I use the Crystal Body deodorant brand (roll-on and spray) and this NEVER happens to me. Although my underarms may smell okay at the end of the day, my tops sometimes smell funky. I could never wear them more than once.
Has anyone else had the same experience with the Thai Crystal Mist? What is the ingredient list?

All right, off to make my own. I'm inspired!

I have used EVERYTHING!!!! Even the nasty aluminum kind, they stop working too.

Whew, all of you who have been reading this from the beginning are lucky because you didn't have to read all 20 pages at once! My dh and I both use Young Living's deoderant. When we first started with it, there was a detox of sorts. I feel whatever you can find that is natural is great. I got some deodorant from Whole Foods one time and it was awful. It was mostly natural with the exception of propylene glycol. It was sort of sticky and I wondered if my odor was getting trapped inside. I called the company and got my money back! I used the crystal for a while and it was not the best, but not the worst. I made my own last winter and will probably try it again. I did not use EVCO though and will next time. I added a bunch of EOs like patchouli, lavender, tea tree, rosemary, geranium. I also put it a little beeswax for stability. In looking at a description for shea butter, I see that it is used for "minor skin wounds and irritation." So it must be somewhat antiseptic. I will try that next time. For now, Young Living is convenient for me and it is a great delivery system for essential oils, right there where your lymph nodes are. My sister uses essential oils only and puts them right on her skin.

I decided to quit aluminum and went w/ Tom's unscented. It worked great for a week and a half, maybe two weeks. Then my pits started tingling and THEN it burned the everloving bejesus out of my left armpit. It pretty much ate my skin. Last weekend I bought a crystal and I LOVE IT!!!!!! It has stopped me from smelling AND sweating, which absolutely baffles me. After reading the posts about how not all crystals are created equal, I will definitely remember to buy the same brand again.....even though that won't happen for awhile!!!! It's amazing to touch my armpits and have them FEEL like armpits and not cakey, waxy pits, you know?

I'm hooked. I thought the crystal was some hippy-dippy business and it would only take the edge of my smell but it has absolutely eliminated my BO. It only took me a few days to detox off aluminum when I stopped using Secret, BTW.

So far so good. I mixed up some EVCO and BS, apply it after wiping with vinegar and I barely smell....it used to be really, really bad, even with regular aluminum deoderant. Although, I have been taking chlorophyll too.

Personally, I really don't mind sweating, that's natural right? But, I was reading an herbal book and they mentioned some herbs I think I will add to the mix I made- coriander, licorice, oregano, rosemary, sage, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cumin, thyme- of course not all at once!!

Fishface:
What brand of crystal deodorant do you use? What type: rock/stick, roll-on or spray?

I've read other user's comments (although I can't verify myself because I've only used the crystal rock briefly before switching to the spray and then the roll-on) that the "ammonium alum" salts prevents sweating better than the "potassium alum". Which ingredient is listed on your brand?

Alvenchrst, Jojo, and Dovesong: If any of you try the Homemade Funk Butter recipes, post back your results.

Mine is Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal stick.

http://tccd.com/deodorant.html

It's the second product listed. There was 1 pink stick and many blue sticks when I bought it. I have a blue one. It doesn't say anywhere on the packaging that pink = women and blue = men. It has ammonium alum in it.

Next week is my shopping week so I will get the shae butter then and mix some up and report back.

So far my own VERY plain concoction is working well. I have used plain EVCO before and it did not work but, by adding the BS it seems to work quite well. I would like to add some nutmeg or cinnamon and see how much better that works. It is fun to make your own and actually be satisfied with it

I would also like to buy some Funk Butter just to give it a try- would it work on really bad smelly feet? DH needs some help BAD!!!
I didn't shower today, I just reapplied the crystal, and I can't even tell I haven't showered. Normally I just feel ICKY, but nada, nothing! This is great. It seems too good to be true.

Fishface: I'm so happy that you and the others are having such great success with the crystal deodorants. Yeah, it is great to have your armpits "FEEL like armpits". Who needs all of that waxy, cakey, flakey, residue on your armpits and clothing?!?

The crystal deodorants supposedly work great on people with smelly feet. In addition to using it as a deodorant, you can also use it on your feet and spray it inside of your shoes to eliminate any odor.

Baking Soda Update

So after several days of applying straight baking soda to my underarms after using my crystal spray deodorant, my underarms became irritated and I had to stop. BS is something I definitely can't use everyday-only occasionally.

Too bad-because BS is a great deodorizer. Not only did it make my deodorants last longer and kept my underarms from smelling sweaty, but it kept the underarms of my tops from smelling sweaty too!

Has anyone else tried this stuff??

ok, I've read though the first 100 posts or so and so far you ladies are making it seem really complex. I haven't used regular antiperspirant/deodorant in several years and I rarely have stink problems. Before I stopped using them I had major major BO issues. When I first heard about using the natural stuff I thought the lady had been smoking something because there was no way I could get away with not using something with my level of stink. What she said:

It will take about 2 weeks after you stop using antiperspirant/deodorant for the stink to stop because of all the crap that's been trapped in your pores and your pits will need to detox. I ended up getting the flu and didn't wear anything for a week and dam I stunk but I figured I would be off work for another week anyway, might as well wait it out and try her suggestions.

You need to exfoliate your pits every night with a loofah. This is key because it gets rid of the dead cells and bacteria. It takes about 3-5 seconds per pit and do it before you shave or else you'll get irritated pits.

I found using with the commercial stuff added to my stink and just use real bar soap and one of those body puff things that does light exfoliation, a wash cloth doesn't cut it.

I have had great success using The Crystal and just applying it right after I get dressed (which is usually about 10-15 minutes after my shower) and 99% of the time it works great and I have been known to be able to skip a day in the shower and still be ok but those are usually not days I'm breaking a sweat you know?

So very simple routine that takes about 30 seconds max, exfoliate with loofah in the shower and apply the crystal within 15 minutes of shower and I stay funk free I never would have believed it possible 5 years ago

Satori,
Many of the people who switch to using aluminum-free and all natural deodorants already know about the "Detox Period" your body goes thru when eliminating these chemicals from your body: either thru word of mouth (by reading this or other threads) or simply discovering it on their own.

The problem isn't with adhering to a specific "method" or "routine", so to speak. The problem is that many of these so-called natural deodorants simply don't work! I decided to go aluminum free in the late spring of 2006 and have tried well over a dozen aluminum-free and all-natural deodorants. Many of them quit working by mid-day and some of them would stop working after two hours or less which is a joke!!!

Out of all of them, there were only two that worked FANTASTICALLY in eliminating BO: Lavilin (original formula), which has since been discontinued and Funk Butter (which has caused some irritation in many users). These provided well over 24-hour deodorant protection with just one application and my tops never smelled funky either.

I've been using the same brand of crystal deodorant that you use since 2006. It is my trusty old stand-by. My problem with the crystal deodorants is that although at the end of the day my underarms would smell fine-the underarms of my clothing however didn't. Having tops that sometimes smell just as bad as underarm BO doesn't cut it for me.

So this is my dilemma: Finding a natural deodorant that provides at least 12-hour deodorant protection and doesn't cause any irritation and doesn't make my clothing smell sweaty either!

P.S. By the way I do use loofah mitts everyday in the shower and exfoliate once a week with a body scrub (my armpits included). I also use to scrub my armpits with BS; however, it caused irritation and I had to stop.

I made my own Funk Butter a few weeks ago and I it! My pits had been really irritated by the real FB, but this stuff is awesome. I used a tbsp each of coconut oil, shea butter, baking soda and cornstarch, plus 2 drops of essential oil. At first it was really runny, but after a few days, it was a perfect consistency to apply. No stink at the end of the day. If you've had issues with the real FB irritating your pits, definitely try this homemade recipe.

Wanna sell it? Yep, I'm lazy at buying all the ingrediants, mixing them up and trying it. Out of pure laziness I'd rather purchase something premade!
