Well, I didn't get the shea butter to add to my homemade FB but, I really don't think I need to.

My CO, BS and lilac oil concoction is working great! Today I did not shower and I barely smell, I even sweated today! This is so awsome, BS is great!

The funk butter does work on masty smelly feet. I love my birkenstocks but i get massive funk feet. It works all day for me. My hubby and I just started using it and I gotta say it is the most amazing stuff. I have tried the Tom's ,Trader Joes, crystal roll on, crystal solid, and any other natural one I could get my hands on and always ended up with stink by the afternoon. The Funk Butter keeps me smelling nice all day and I even wake up withour smelly pits-Hooray!!!

Funk Butter

I second the Funk Butter. Hands Down it is an AMAZING DEODORANT!

I'm with you Max. Although the homemade Funk Butter's recipe is very simple-I'm just too lazy to purchase the ingredients, mix them up, find a container to put them in, and do everything again the next month etc.... I'm just a lazy Gal to the bone.

What would you use if you couldn't have anything nut related, such as shea, coconut, etc...

I've tried crystal, Queen helene's mint, jason,etc...I was told a few days ago to try wild yam.

has anyone else had issues with the tom's rollon causing peeling skin in the underarm area? i had to stop using it and let the skin heal! It didn't hurt, surprisingly, but it cleared up when I stopped using it for about a week and went back to my dove solid. I am using the calendula formula. I am thinking maybe it is a moisture thing, b/c it's a rollon? I dunno. Thought I would see if someone else had the problem. I let it clear up and just went back to the tom's to see if it happens again. and it happenned on the left arm more than the right...

strange, i know

Irritation from Tom's of Maine Deodorant

I've read on other forums that the new formula can cause skin irritations like rashes or peeling skin. There were a few posts on this thread about this happening as well. Check out posts#388, #175, and #55.

Alright, I am so buying some FB for DH and I will FORCE him to use it on his feet, by any means possible.

It's my understanding that coconut is not actually a nut but a fleshy fruit called a drupe, whatever a drupe is. Ahhh, just looked it up- peaches, cherries, plums, coffee, mango, olive, blackberry, raspberry, nectarines and coconut, etc.; I'm sure I missed something.

Back on topic- But if you are allergic to coconut I would not try the oil. Could you try avocado oil (another drupe!) or olive oil with baking soda?

I liked Funk Butter when I first tried it, but now I'm a dropout.

I loved the Black Cedar Fig scent (to me, the mango smelled like rotting bananas), though I hated having to put my fingers in it to apply it. It worked well unless I got really sweaty. When I did sweat a lot and get smelly, I was finding that my armpits still stank after I showered, even after lathering up 3 or 4 times. Apparently the FB was trapping the odor onto my skin, and then wouldn't wash off. : It also discolored my clothes.

I'm now using Naturally Fresh roll-on. It takes forever to dry, but it works about as well as FB. At least when I get stinky with this stuff, I can wash it off! And it doesn't stain my clothes. The only down side is that it has no masking scent, so if I start to smell bad, it's all me.

I'm intrigued by the good reviews for Thai Crystal Mist. I tried the Thai Crystal solid (no good at all for me), and roll-on (better, but not as good as Naturally Fresh roll-on), but the mist may be even better, and may not have that annoying long drying time.

I tried Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme deodorant stick, and it was worthless.

Lemon juice

It may sound yucky but after you wash with soap, you let your underarm dry and then you just rub half a lime.

I think after reading this whole thread and trying some stuff myself, i have realized that what works for each person is different. A lot of people just don't sweat as much as I do, or get stinky as much as I do I guess. I think if you tend to not get BO very easily then you get to choose from LOTS of great stuff out there, but if that's no you, then your choice for natural deodorant that works are very limited. I have been washing with BS in the shower then following with ACV after then Thai Crystal spray and it doesn't even give me 12 hours, maybe 6-10. SO it's just not cutting it for me. I ordered some unscented funk butter and hope I don't develop a reaction, if i do then I will make my own. But making my own is initially more expensive, so that's why I started with the FB. Hope it works! I think being 34wks preg, and hot, and carrying around a little extra chub and all the hormones is working against me too.

I agree with you Alvenchrst. Because the natural deodorants are not anti-perspirants, the effectiveness will vary from user to user. The sweating aspect will only increase any BO-especially for people like us who have a tendency to sweat alot.

RE: Thai Crystal Spray Mist
Have you tried using this deodorant just by itself (w/o BS and ACV rinse) applying it every 12 hours: once in the morning and then twelve hours later in the evening? This method worked best for me whenever I use the crystal deodorants on a regular basis.

Thanks for the tip, I will try it by itself.

Ok I'm doing a version of the homemade FB and it works ok for the smell but I sweat up a storm and I've been noticing that it's leaving brown rings under my sleeves, anyone know why? The mixture I'm using is coconut oil, cornstarch, and baking soda. Maybe I'm just putting to much on I don't know.

I just got some Pit Putty on the advice of some posters here. OMG!! It's the first deodorant that has EVER worked for me, natural or otherwise. I'm even giving it the 2 day test just to see how awesome it is. It kind of smells like cloves, but that smell goes away and leaves a fresh, non-smell. I haven't felt wet and my one underarm that never, ever smells fresh actually smells fresh!

So, thanks to those who recommended it. I'm relieved to finally have this problem fixed.
