What to get my ds for his 6th birthday?

Dh and I are both kind of at a loss about what to get him. He has a bike, a scooter, a remote control car, enough trains to last a lifetime, etc. The only thing he's requested is a marble run, so we'll get that, but it's only $30 and honestly I don't think it's one he'll actually use all that much (he insists it's the one he wants but it's very complicated to set up and delicate to use).

He has a wide variety of interests - sports, drawing, games, etc.

Any ideas? What does your 6yo ds like?

i am planning to taky my son who will be 4 on an overnight trip to st louis to grants farm. It will be a family event and lots of fun. He has more than he needs. I want to spend the $ on good quality family memory making!

My ds would love a cool squirt gun, a new marble run, that spy gear gadget that has 5 lights that clip one on each finger, a voice changing gadget, metal detector, Dig-A-Dino skeleton.

My DSs like to build - K'Nex is one of their favorite toys.

If you let him play on the computer, the Webkinz are very popular among my sons' friends right now (we don't have them, yet).

My DSs also like Perler beads, we give that to everyone as a birthday present this year. Last year we gave everyone Dr. Suess' My Book About Me - a book they fill-in-the-blanks about themselves.

We aren't sports people, but if your DS is, would he like a basketball goal or soccer nets?

That was the age mine started buying schleich and papo knights and accessories. Also my eldest was an avid reader already at that age, so he loved (loves) getting fantasy novels. Legos of course for that age. Bicycles were started around then too. And chess. Well, no chess was younger I think... Good luck!

We got our almost 6 year old fire fighter turn out gear - but then his passion is fire trucks right now.

For kids that don't have a passion, I think gift buying is more difficult.

I would suggest:
Board games (I like a lot of the cranium ones)
Legos
An outing or experience - is there a movie he'd like to see? A place he'd like to go? If ds didn't have his passion, we'd take him to the coast for a night as he loves the beach.
Friends of mine who have a very physical child says he loves his Green Machine
What about something like a basketball hoop, soccer balls/goal, baseball glove and bat?

just a few thoughts on what my DS 6 loves... art supplies... its getting warmer outside... a great opportunity for FINGER PAINTS, sidewalk chalk (crayola makes some sidewalk chalk accessories)... playdough and accessories...books, activity books, mazes, sudoku for kids, interactive dvd's, I SPY BOOKS, I SPY Games....musical instruments? (i think first act makes kids instruments, guitar, harp, lap harp etc) puzzles?? sand toys??? HOT WHEELS? seeds for a garden? pots to decorate, $1 at michales, add some paint and viola-an afternoon project plus seed planting?

is there a museum/zoo he would like a membership to?? summer camp?? how about a family pool pass for the summer??

this is a tough age for boys... we dont allow 'fighting' so that limits what toys we have...my son wont do transformers and action figures either so...its becoming challenging...

Folkmanis puppets, water toys, high-quality art supplies (since he loves drawing).

My ds got a low end digital camera for his 6th birthday. It was a total hit. He loves to set up photo shoots with his dragons and knight figurines or other toys. He takes his camera with him whenever we go out on a family trip.
