Mamas, let's remember that the point of the Lactivism forum is to work towards positive solutions and promoting breastfeeding.

From the lactivism guidelines:
Quote:
The purpose of the Lactivism forum on MDC is to provide a place for Lactivists to work together in creating these changes through positive action. Lactivists can support one another by sharing opportunities for lactivism and brainstorming solutions. We can share and celebrate in our successes, encourage one another in our efforts and look forward to more positive changes in the future.
If we could stick with critcal thinking and brainstorming solutions rather than namecalling, that would be great! Thanks.

Why not teach better bottle feeding practices? Yes, I know babies should be bfed, but for those mothers who can't or won't, then teaching them how to bottlefeed would be better. For example:
1) When baby's done, they're done. Don't push that last ounce in in order to not waste the formula.
2) Keep the nipple hole as small as possible so the poor baby isn't trying to fight the geyser that comes out of the bottle by swallowing rapidly.
3) Hold baby while feeding, or at least hold the bottle, instead of allowing baby to self feed through propping or bedtime feeding.
4) No cereal, baby food, etc in bottle. Bottle is for milk. Period.
And so on.

What I'd like to know most about this study is this:

Quote:
His study, published in the American Journal of Physiology, found even adult animals fed a high-fat diet remained slim.
I'd like to know what the control group was fed. Was the control group fed a lower fat, higher carb diet? Were all rats fed the same thing as adults and the only variable was the infant formula?

I, for one, am not convinced that a high-fat diet is "fattening." I have to wonder if the leptin is really doing anything here, or if this is just a convoluted way of testing which kinds of ADULT diets lead to obesity.

And, I'd just add that the baby needs to eat when they're hungry, not when the clock strikes noon.
