My ds is 10 months old. I've had a look at the booklist, but there seems to be so many I don't know where to start. What would you recommend as a good starting point? Also any other tips you have for dealing with discipline at this age?

With a 10 month old all you can really go is redirect & remove temptation. I highly recommend you go pick up Alfie Kohn's "Unconditional Parenting" if you haven't already done so.

I absolutely second Kohn's Unconditional Parenting. I LOVE this book -- it just rings so true with me.

I love Adventures in Gentle Discipline by Hilary Flower. It is full of real-life examples, and the overall tone makes GD sound so common-sense and easy to work into your lifestyle.

I disagree that all you can do with a 10-month-old is redirect and remove temptation. You also can set an example. My son was starting to share by that age (for instance, to tear up a slice of bread and offer some to each person) because we shared with him, and he was starting to pat me and make soft noises if I seemed upset. Don't underestimate the power of modeling even at this early age; your baby is soaking up what he sees and laying foundations for later!
