well... you start out with clean laundry, 'town' clothes become around the house clothes then they become the lets clean house clothes, then lets work outside, then lets really garden in them... I'd say start to finish you can get a good 10 wears out of something before you really have to wash!

Do it all the time, the only clothes I wash after ever ware is my underpants! my socks probably only get 2 wears before I want to change them but it's getting warm so less socks mean less laundry!

My clothes are never "not stinky" after being worn! I just get too hot and sweaty and need clean clothes to be comfortable. Can you really wear socks twice before washing them? I can't!

The only thing I'll put back into the closet (instead of the hamper) after wearing is skirts, and only if I didn't sweat in it.

DS' clothes are usually covered in food and/or mud, and anyway I'd rather have him err on the side of good hygiene rather than erring on the side of saving water- he changes his clothes daily and they go right into the hamper. DD1 is already at the stinky armpit and feet stage, and DD2 is both still in the food/mud stage AND already in the stinky armpit and feet stage!

DD1 will sometimes re-wear clothing that she's already worn once or twice before, but it drives me bonkers! I wouldn't mind so much if she'd actually put the stuff away as clean laundry instead of leaving it lying around her bedroom on or next to her bed. I mean, if it's clean enough to wear again then it's clean, right? She's also not always the best judge of how clean her shirts smell.

From your siggy, it looks like you probably would have more laundry than I do with only 2 children. I actually don't really wear anything more than once except maybe pajamas if I took a shower right before I put them on. I like clothes smelling fresh and clean. With my kids' clothes, I'm the same way.

Hmm. I guess I also wear clothes that I have to dry clean more than once. But that is usually because I wore them to a fancy place and probably didn't get dirty or stinky.

Wow, I guess I'm weird. If my shirts pass the sniff test and the stain search after wearing, they hang right up to air out and get worn again. Sweaters get worn quite a few times. Jeans get worn until they either look grubby or else don't fit right. Socks and undies get washed after one wear, but then of course they do not pass the tests, do they!

Clothes last much MUCH longer if you do not wash them all the time.

This being said, DH's clothes ALWAYS stink a LOT, b/c he is anti-deodorant. His shirts get washed RIGHT AWAY before they smell up the closet! Also DS's day clothes get washed daily, but are usually covered in something by then anyway. His PJs get 2 wearings before wash.

We always rewear clothes. I don't usually with my 16 month old because he always finds ways to yuck them up with his meals.
But my DH gardens in the same pair of jeans for about a week sometimes before finally laying them to rest in the bin.
If it's not stinky or too terribly dirty it gets worn again. Great way to reduce your work and loads of laundry!

Ditto. If the article of clothing smells ok and looks ok it gets worn a second time. Spots get wiped off, depending on how big they are and how desperate I'm feeling.

I can't imagine if everything got washed after one wear. I get bogged down by laundry enough as it is! It's easier in the winter when the kids don't get dirty outside and we aren't as sweaty and grubby. I think it's a total bonus when DD can wear her jeans three times without getting them dirty.

worn clothes get folded and put on dresser or hung

all the more reason to take care of what we already have.

We also rewear a fair bit. My husband doesn't usually rewear bottom-layer shirts (as opposed to flannels, etc.) because he spends waay too much time grubbing around under vehicles, in the shop, in the garden, etc., and we don't rewear underwear and socks (well, sometimes I rewear socks but I am blessed with un-stinky feet), but otherwise, we wear 'em 'til they're, you know, dirty. That is, 'til they smell or have visible dirt. I should start spot-cleaning, but so far I've been too lazy. Actually, *blush* I usually lose track and wear jeans long past the dirty stage. ;-) Our next-door neighbor line-dries, which is nice, but I am constantly amazed by the entire line full of jeans she puts out every week--just her husband and her. What a lot of work! Little one isn't here yet, so I can't comment on its clothing needs, but I 'spec I'll just keep it nekkid as much as possible! ;-)
