I tried, but I don't really know what I'm feeling. Plus, its kind of hard to reach. Its soft and open, but that's all I know

I also tried since my midwife won't until I am 40 weeks.

I don't know what I am checking for, but it was a little softer than normal, I couldn't tell if I was dialated (plus I have fairly long fingernails so I didn't want to hurt anything with them!), and my cervix was lower than normal- pretty easy to reach.

It's very hard for me to reach myself. I tried to get dh to check it. That was a disaster. I had him wash his hands. In the breif period of time it took to walk to the bedroom he managed to 1)grab his crotch, 2)touch a dog, 3)stick his finger in his mouth!!!. I insisted that he re-wash. When he tried to put his fingers in me he was all weird (like he hadn't done it before: ) it didn't work :

LOL. One of the reasons why we haven't done perenium massages as often.

THAT IS SO FUNNY! Just like a DH. I have checked twice. It feels different now than it did 3 weeks ago. Softer and shorter and easier to reach. But still kida hard to get to. DH was gonna check last night, but I fell asleep before he madei t out of the shower. (go figure, i'm a tired mama)

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had tried it, or just me. I've never heard anything against doing it, but also never heard of anyone that's tried it. This is my 4th kid and it never crossed my mind before. I'm just so excited to meet my daughter, I wanta know how close I am. I guess I should relax, she'll be here soon enough, huh.

I've tried, but can't reach it, I guess. I tried checking it while TTC and couldn't find it then either, so I really don't know what exactly I'm feeling for.

Glad to know my dh doesn't sound unusual

i wouldn't know what i was feeling as far as dilation or whatever. i'll leave it to my doc to check. i know it is 'bad' to have too many or too early but i'm so curious i can't help it : (don't want to ask for it not to be done)

I've been checking it the last couple pregnancies. I'm sorry I never did with my first pregnancy! Not that the information means much of anything but it is empowering not to have to rely on anyone else to do it and I have had issues with PTL so I knew for sure if it was real PTL or just contractions with no dilation. That was really helpful.

Right now I can tell that I'm about 75% effaced and baby's head is engaged at about 0 station. Sometimes a bit lower. I can't feel exact dilation because my cervix gets more and more posterior every day. That's normal.

Check out this article.

I haven't tried for one because I don't really know what to feel for and two, because I know how far back the dr. had to reach yesterday--and I don't think I could reach that far back by myself.

Very interesting article you linked for us to read. I have felt the baby's head. It was quite distictive as the MW in the article stated. Much harder than the rest of my vagina.

It seems exciting to me that I can feel my baby......first.

Is it bad if you can't feel the baby's head? My OB has tried several times now to see if the head could be felt from the inside and can't locate it (she said she can feel it on the outside but looked a little concerned). Why isn't the head lower?

Read the article below. The MW in the article does mention that. I can't remember exactly what she said. But it is mentioned that sometimes it can only be felt from the outside, right above the pubic bone. I think it just mean that the baby isn't "engaged" in the pelvis.

no, it is okay. Some babies never engage until well into labor.
ANy OB worth her salt will be patient with you and your baby and not make a fuse if your baby has no engaged in the pelvis.
