What is Gentle Discipline?

Thread Starter
Can someone explain it to me? We follow(ed) AP with our DS as a babe, and assume GD is a natural progression as he gets older. I think we follow GD principles a lot, but I'm not sure. I tend to use bribery a lot as a desperate measure (DS is 3), but I want to do what is best for him and help him grow in to a happy independent adult.

What is GD for a 3 year old, (any examples)?

Many thanks,
Kathy.

There is a great sticky at the top with links to gentle discipline books. Many of the links will take you to online articles.

Gentle discipline can mean slightly different things for different people, but for me it means that I treat my children with respect and empathy and gently guide them to behave in socially acceptable ways.

phew! Big question!

Don't do to your child what you would not do to me. Be tender. Put yourself in the child's position.
