BFing Mom asked to leave IPARTY in MA

You can read this article at: http://enterprise.southofboston.com/...ews/news09.txt

This is sandwiched between an Earth Day Nurse Out at Boston Common, and a Breastfeeding lobbying Day for Boston May 9th. Massachusetts currently has no breastfeeding in public legislation, but there is a bill on the ballot. Any powerful suggestions before we meet with our senators and representatives?

Does anyone know this woman? Is she happy with the stores responce? Would she like us to write letters?

In my opinion, not only do states need to pass laws protecting a baby's right to eat in public, but they need to do some sort of awarness campain so that business owners and others who may respond like this know the law. I realise that Massachusetts doesn't have legislation yet but this happens in states that do have good laws. It seems like it's left up to the mothers to educate. It's like the state is saying "yes we will protect your rights, but you have to go out of your way to seek that protection"

This is just getting ridiculous...You're right...what WOULD those kids think...that you were using your breasts for their ACTUAL USE?!?!?!? God forbid.

I think what is most offensive is their offer of a $25 gift card. Like that will cause her to forgive and forget.

Dionne said the company “will make our managers aware that women might need to have some private space and to see how that can be accommodated.”
GREAATT! So then they'll ask moms to use their handy nursing chair in the restroom... :

That totally broke my heart to read she cried in the parking lot. That's something I would totally do if I was chastised like that. What a jerk.

great quote

“I equate breast-feeding to breathing, in my opinion,” Tracy said. “You're telling me to stop breast-feeding my son? Why don't you tell me to stop breathing.”--Dr. Melissa Tracy

That is such a wonderful quote. Poor mama, I feel so sorry for her. I've been in a similar situation. It really is frustrating.

I am so glad I was directed over here.

I had started another post in "breastfeeding" last night after I saw the news. I was completely disgusted. I wrote an email to the company last night. This is what they replied with this morning:

I apologize for the incident that happened in one of the IParty stores. However, we are website only and are no longer affiliated with the stores. If you wish, you may voice your concern to the Corporate Office at 781-355-3717.

I will call today - anyone else?!

I live in mass, and actually got on a radio show thismorning - it was awesome! DH was so proud of me! The guys were saying how she should have just gone to the bathroom, or out to her car. Oh, i set them straight! =)

Anyway...

Any plans for a nurse in? I live super close to this place, a bunch of girlfriends and i would love to plan one.

I'm in RI but would drive up for a nurse-in, please PM me with any info.....maybe a weekend so there will be more traffic in the store (and so us working moms can come )

The only reason they offered her a gift card was because she would have to come back to spend it. I would never go near the place again with my money if I lived there.

I think it would be funny to make people who think bfing belongs in the car or bathroom to spend a day in public and only be allowed to eat in the bathroom. I can picture a middle aged man throwing a huge fit because he and his McDonalds should go sit on the toilet.

Though I do nurse in the car now so my older one can play with toys in a confined space, and the 2 month old is to distracted to nurse well in public.

I am north of Boston, but if it fits my schedule, I would be interested in a nurse in as well!

Curious - what radio show did you go on? I work with all radio stations in New England and would love to know.

I was on WAAF the Hillman morning show - its the most sexest show, but while i was flipping through the channels i caught the word "breastfeeding" ...and was hooked! lol

Who would be up for a nurse in on Tuesday or Thursday of next week? Should we try and get as many people as possible involved, or just have one in mass?

The sooner the better in my opinion, we want to strike while the iron is hot to really drive in the point. Not only that I'm sure more moms will be able to attend on a Saturday. Do we want to alert the media or let ourselves be a quiet presence?

Sundays are better for me. Well, or any week day, but I agree there would be better turn out on a weekend.

I would so be there this weekend, if I didn't already have plans out of state!!!!

funny side note, DH just told me about this as he walked in the door from work. He also said that there was some sort of poll on WBZ about BFIP, asking if it should be legal or not!!
