BFing Mom asked to leave IPARTY in MA - Page 2

Ok, had to look up the poll- it's 50/50 right now!

Poll: Should NIP be legal?
Ick! 50% really think it should be illegal?!?! :

another poll, 55% think bf should be done in private
post #24 of 36
Okay, that fox poll is disgusting. Please vote, mamas. With the bill in the works to protect breastfeeding in MA, everything that gets state house attention is critically important.

Voted in the poll that was posted in post #21
I don't understand why this is STILL happening? How is it possible that people are still so ignorant about breastfeeding? :

I feel like people are not just still ignorant but sometimes it seems like they are actively resisting. I wish I was within driving distance, I'd so be at the nurse-in.

Go back and vote again, we have it down to 52% ignorance, lol.

I can't believe those polls! I NIP'ed my toddler everywhere when she was younger and never saw anyone give me any looks or had anyone make any comments. I can't believe so many people are so ignorant! How disturbing!

Voted!

Will never understand why it bothers so many people?:

well FOX is tabloid news...

but I couldn't take it so I just emailed this via the FOX comments link. I'm sure one of you pros could have written it better, and I don't expect to hear back but I feel better for having said it:

Your current poll, "Do you think women should breastfeed in public?" is misleading and divisive.

It is simply not possible for women to breastfeed "in private" all the time.

Breastfed babies breastfeed anywhere from 6-12 times a day during the first year of life. For many years, the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that all babies exclusively breastfeed (this means no bottles of formula) for at least the first 6 months of life.

So by asking if women should breastfeed in private, you are implying that women should stay home around the clock for at least 6 months straight and not go to work, to medical appointments, to the grocery store to shop for their families, etc.

Please remove this poll question immediately. Without presenting the facts about breastfeeding to the public, it is absolutely not an accurate gauge of public opinion.

Another day, another tale of a breast-feeding mother harassed and humiliated in a local store.

Here’s a modest proposal: Make this sort of thing a hate crime.

(snip)

“He stood over me and said you can’t do that here.” So Hingham physician Melissa Tracy told the Herald Tuesday about the latest nursing mother assault - this time in a South Weymouth iParty.

(snip)

These stories always end the same way: a grand apology and a protest “nurse-in” .... Somebody from La Leche League extols the benefits of nursing and reminds us that nursing is why God made bosoms. But no one apparently learns a thing since we’re quickly off to the next public nursing dust-up.

Great letter and I'm very glad you sent it.

The only thing I would have added to "6 to 12 times a day" is the phrase "at least" in front of it.

And it hits the national news....

I think what bothers me the most is the emphasis on women + breastfeeding, when really the issue is babies + eating. If these polls were rephrased "Do you think that babies should be allowed to eat in public?" perhaps we'd have a different outcome.

great point...

Turkish Kate, and I'm so glad you reframed the issue that way! I am from MA and everyone is talking about this and now I have a great way to help peopl see the point!

Fox is disgusting. I never listen to anything they have to say.: Also, what if we started referring to breasts as mammory glands, or mams as my friends and I call them? Then people would know their primary function from the get go.
