We have this problem with some friends. It's dh's best friend from highschool and his wife. They have been TTCing for almost three years now. I hate to say it but this is the only time I have ever been glad that some one had fertility problems. When A (the wife) saw me change ds2's dipe she said "oh my! what's wrong with his penis?" I just looked at her weird for a minute, I couldn't figure out what the heck she was asking. : It's not like he had any fuzz on it or anything. Then dh said "she wants to know why he isn't circumcised." like "duh honey it's still weird to some people." Then she said "what do you mean he isn't circumcised?" I said "well when he was born I didn't let the dr's cut a piece of his penis off." She kind of looked strange. I don't think she understood what circumcision was or that it wasn't normal. I think she has only ever seen her husband's penis and he is cut. I think she just assumed they all came looking like that. Finally her husband explained circumcision to her. I piped in with "yes it is really a cultural thing pretty much only done here in the US and it is falling out of favor. They realized that there is no medical reason to do it so that only leaves cosmetic. Now it is only sticking around because it is so culturally entrenched." She just got this strange wide eyed look and said "Oh I think I like the look of a circumcised penis much better. IT's so streamlined and clean. All that extra skin is gross." : I refuse to go see them again. Dh doesn't understand why. I don't think she realized that she was insulting my son and calling his genitals (which are totally natural and just perfectly as they should be) gross. But it irks me that she thinks this way, honestly that anyone thinks this way. IT doesn't hurt that we have nothing in common wiht them anyway.
