Fund raisers

Dd's preschool (she's in pre-k) is part of a school that goes to grade 12. That means that she is involved in school-wide projects and... you guessed it... fund raisers for charity.

This one is for St. Jude's and it involves doing this "trike-a-thon" at school. I filled out the permission slip for it so she can participate, but I feel really funny asking for donations. She's obviously too young to even understand what is going on... she just wants to ride the tricycle tomorrow!

Is it okay to just write a check for the donation (enough for her to get the T-shirt) or is this taboo? I don't even feel right asking close friends and family to donate. I know this is just the beginning of many years of this, but at such a young age it seems rather ridiculous, YKWIM?

I've done it...many times. All they want is to raise money, they don't care how many people you get it from. I hope she enjoys the trike-a-thon!

I do it all the time, the only donations they get are ours. the only one they do here is the MS read-a-thon. They do other fundraisers but it's bake sales or raffles, costs less than $1.

I do not ask other people for money for school fundraisers of any type. If I think it's a worthy cause and want to donate, I do. Otherwise, into the trash it goes.

I don't ask others to donate. Sometimes, I will ask grandparents but that is it.

Thanks all. I asked my mom and my best friend and that's it.
