It is amazing what happens when you give mothers a little knowledge

Somewhere out in internet land is a place I go often to talk to other moms. The topic of foreskin and circ has been a hot topic for about a week now. The group is diverse, there are some British moms and mostly American moms and then some from other European countries.

Out of this group there is not ONE pro-circ person! All of the American Moms who already have little boys had them circumcised. It is amazing though....they like me....did not do the research before they had it done. None of them knew what it entailed or what that decision meant for their sons.

I shared the link to the graphic circ video and links to lots of info. They can't believe they thought it was necessary. They are all very upset and it is starting up lots of new conversation on why it is "Routine" here in the U.S. They are all so sad that they did that to their little boys. They have all said that knowing what they know now any future boys are safe and that they are going to spread the word to their friends.

I think a whole new batch of baby boys may have been saved!

I have to say, in a pretty mainstream group I used to me on where people knew me for YEARS I had a pretty similar reaction. When I revealed what I learned about circ, they were all shocked.

The thing is, nearly all of them agreed with me...BUT most of them still said that their husband's would insist that it was done. Their circumcised husbands couldn't get a handle on the fact that their sons would be whole : and of course, didn't want to think that they were missing anything themselves.

So...why have to deal with the acknowledgement that they were missing something when they can just have that something lopped off and just stay in their state of denial about the fact that the most sensitive parts of their genitals were removed against their will as infants? :

That is what I like about these moms....they aren't necessarily mainstream but they aren't really NFL moms either. I guess you could say they are middle of the road moms. They all said thought that they wouldn't have another boy circed....most of them have already told their husbands too.

Amazingly most of them have said that their husbands didn't have a problem with not circing any future sons.

Excellent!!! It sounds to me like they are intelligent and empowered women! Honestly, AP/NFL/mainstream... whatever. If they're intelligent (whether they agree with me or not), enjoy learning new things, and are empowered to make a decision based on what they learn without letting some man boss them into an opposite decision they aren't totally comfortable with - then truly, I'll get along with them :

Somewhere a few years ago I saw a statistic that I have yet to find again... it was the percentage of people who are sheep-like - who just follow the cultural norms and don't give it any thought. I wish I could find it again... I really have no problem with people who follow most cultural norms as long as they give it thought and don't just do it because it's just what's done.

love and peace.
