What would you do if you had an extra $100,000 a year?

People who get paid well, or win the lottery, intrigue me and I wonder how I would do things if I had the sort of change in circumstances. What would you do?

I would pay off debt, invest extensively, donate to charity and do some voluntourism.

I'd buy a house in the country. Put in a garden, raise animals. Quit my job and have kids. (DH can keep his job cuz he likes it.) Still live semi-frugally. (Not wasteful). Put some in savings. Give some money to our families. Donate to charity. Go on vacation. In that order as far as it goes. Of course, you're saying an extra $100,000/year. So the first & second year would be the house. Third year would be all the rest.

Have my DH quit his job so we could be a SAH Mom and Dad!

Another vote for I'd put it toward country property. Once we had that, DH would quit his job and we'd homestead, and save what we didn't need.

I agree with the pp, Dh would quit his job and we'd SAH. Because that's way more money than we need we would probably do a lot of traveling too!

i would invest it in property!

spend some on trips with my family

save some for retirement and college for the kids.

We're probably take a family vacation and then invest the rest of the $ as part of our kids' college fund and our retirement.

We'd probably continue to build a medium size house like we are now. Only I would want to spend the MN winters traveling instead of shoveling. Pay off debt, charity, but mostly save.

Ooh- what fun!

We'd finish buying our house, I'd go part-time, dh would continue farming, and we'd put the rest in retirement and college savings, with maybe a little fun $$ each year for a neat vacation or splurge. That'd be the plan for the next few years at least, after that who knows!

Honestly, I'd also love a monthly massage and new livingroom furniture, too!

Easy question. Buy a sailboat, raise kids and "sail round and round the world" (quote from dd). We'd need to wait for this little one to be born and get to be at least 4, I think. That would add up to nearly $500,000 so we could sail for many many years!

(We're planning to do this starting in 2012 for as long as we can anyway. But, it's more likely that we'll have $100,000 in total to work with---VERY small boat/sailing budget.)

Pay off the mortgage first. Then throw a party to celebrate the end of the mortgage Next get the education savings accounts to where they need to be, most of rest for retirement funds and enjoyment.

Combination of all the options. And DH would definitely quit his job so we could both be SAH parents.

Meet with my financial planner.
Buy health insurance.
Pay off debt.
Save for retirement.
Save for house.
Hire a style consultant and buy an entire new wardrobe, donating my old one to charity.
Make an estate plan - Will, Trust, etc.

We'd build our house, upgrade cars, buy the things I "need" right now (cloth dipes, shorties, longies, beco, new carseats for the girls) arrange to take a vacation, put a bunch in the girls savings accounts, go back to school. When I get out of school I want to open a "waldasorri" preschool.

First: Pay off debt
Second: Begin the process of building a home that is more Earth-friendly
Third: Get greener vehicles
Fourth: Save for emergencies/college expenss/etc. e live fairly comfortably on what we make now (middl class) and an extra 100k would be insane!

Ohh and I might use the money for vacations and such since we'll be homeschooling our little ones

Same here! We'd pay off our debt, keep enough out to cover the bills and invest the rest.

1. Apply it toward my mortgage.
2. Buy a new(to me) vehicle.
3. A vacation
4. Quit my job, have babies, work in my yard and volunteer in a few places.

1. Pay off all our bills.
2. Buy land in the country.
3. Build a nice modest home, with room to grow and for all our kids.
4. Start a small ranch, get some sheep, bunnies, chickens, maybe a cow.
5. Live simply and happily.
