Tell me about your washing machine

I can't believe how utterly happy I am that my washing machine just DIED! It's been having a lot of trouble over the last few months... it can't tolerate a soak (even a full tub for the rinse cycle)... even if it's set on the lowest water setting. Now it stops and stops and stops so many times in a cycle that it takes me all day to do a load or two, hours upon hours to wash my dipes!
So, we are finally getting a new machine. The one we have was bought as part of a deal; a friend of a friend was having her trailer repo'd and she sold us all her 5-10 year-old appliances (stove, microwave, washer, dryer, and fridge) for $600. It was fabulous for us newlyweds, but here we are 5 years later with a 15 year-old washer, etc.
While I would love to get one of those fancy-schmancy $1000 washers, that's out of our price range! tell me about your fabulous, reasonably-priced machine.

you don't want to know about my washer, the outer cover is held on w/ duct tape, where it is rusted, it's about 13 yrs old and was the basic cheapest model then, works good though!

I used a washer at someones house that I thought was pretty cool, the tub would also agitate along with the center agitator, so your clothes really got swished around, I don't remember the brand and it was older but much fancier than mine, after I saw that feature I want it on my next washer!

What I mean by the tub agitating, it would take little advances clockwise maybe (using a clock for refrence) a 2 hr advance forward and then a 1 hour counterclockwise movement back. then 2 foward, 1 back....

We have a Maytag Legacy. It holds a huge amount.

I soak all of our whites overnight so I need a top loader. Besides I am not into front loaders.

Does a good job washing

I think it cost around $500. We bought it from Sears on a 6 months same as cash and free delivery type of thing.

I have a front loader -- I like it, except it makes washing diapers a bit harder (with a top loader we just dump it in and use a stick to move the diapers around -- front loader I wear those dishwashing gloves to take the diapers out of the pail).

It's old, really old, and yellow I'm guessing tha's not what you were looking for though. I was looking recently at new ones and I think there were two top loader choices. I ike th top loader because of CD's but I have destroyed many many zippers too and I hear the front loaders are gentler on clothes. One of the top loaders I saw was really really nice though. I think it's a Maytag Bravo (not positive about that). The agitator was much shorter than the old style and it's capacity is much greater than the front loaders. I think it was expensive though, but I've never bought a new washer before.

I have a GE front loader set. The only reason we got the GE is that it had 24 months SAC instead of 12 like the other brands.

The one thing mine DOESN'T have that I wish it did (I didn't pay close enough attention -- the higher model had it but mine doesn't) is a spin only cycle. On mine, you have to rinse and spin.

I think this is the one I have.

I have a front loader extra capacity by Frigidaire. I absolutely love it! It has a setting on it for extra rinse so I can use that for washing diapers. Also because it is a front loader I add the soap in a little tray and can put in vinegar in the fabric softener compartment. It also uses half the soap of a normal washer. The spin cycle does a great job and the clothes come out only slightly damp, so they dry very quickly. It's very energy effecient!

Ha! Thanks for the comments, gals. Home Depot happens to be running a 12 SAC on appliances over $299, plus 10% off appliances over $297, plus free delivery/setup/haul away!! Woo! I spent a very long time pouring over every detail until my husband and the salesman both had that glazed-over look. I really, really, really wanted a front loader, but I just couldn't swallow the $700+ price tag. So, I finally settled on the $549 Maytag Legacy. I deliberated for a very long time between the $449 model and the $549 model; the stainless tub sold me. Plus, Maytag is offering a $25 rebate on certain models. I think I got a pretty good deal, although I will need to take some time to learn my new fancy washer. It has so many more settings and dials than my 15 year old Kenmore.

FL here too. We bought the cheapest one we could find (Fridgidaire) and it works great. I just miss the soak feature for my dipes but I just to a cold rinse and it works just as good.

I have a Fisher & Paykel EcoSmart and I can't tell you enough how good this washer is. Not cheap but not as expensive as a front loader and saves tons of water.

I am so happy about having gotten it. Got it in December and no problems so far. Cloth dipes come out clean.

I have the Oasis, I think it's Kenmore. It's blue. It came with the house. It has no post agitator, so it holds a ton. I like it bunches...
