Uncircumcized Friend

I have an uncircumcized friend who sometimes will start bleeding during sex. He seems to think this is normal with uncirced peeps, I was just wondering if it is? Thanks!

How old is he and how long has this been happening? Perhaps the opening is not large enough? But I know it can be stretched and helped with creams they have now.

Never heard of that happening... I would say that it is abnormal. Sounds awful. The previous poster has the right idea for the right course of action.

In nearly 17 years with my intact DH, I've never seen anything like that. Several times I've read in Pro-circ articles that foreskins tear during sex...huh. It's just about the most elastic skin that I've ever seen. Perhaps your friend should go visit an intact friendly urologist.

A little OT, but have any of you seen the HBO penis puppetry specials? They're hilarious. A couple of brits do all sorts of strange things with their penii and foreskins, making chirping birds and animals.

They had tryouts on there too, and the poor American circ'd guys couldn't do most of them :-(

It does go to show you just how elastic the adult foreskin is though!!

It's never happened IME and I've been with an intact man for 6 years. I also had an intact boyfriend before I met dh. Is your friend retractile (does his foreskin pull all the way back)? He may need to look into stretching and steroid creams. Where is the bleeding occurring?

I never had that happen with intact partners, I'd be getting it checked out.

Both my first H and my DH are intact and neither of them ever had anything like that happen. I would have that checked out ASAP.

This is the third time this subject has come up for me this week - interesting. FIrst was from an intactivist friend whose intact 24 year old son told her this just happened to him, and the other was on a parent's board for people who have chosen not to circumcise. So, apparently it does happen sometimes (although there are also examples of tightly circed men tearing and bleeding with erection or intercourse too).

I think it is possible for there to be some minor adhesions between the foreskin and glans into adulthood for some men. Also, anatomically, there is a condition called "frenulum breve" or short frenulum, which might make it more likely to produce a lot of pull on that area with forcible retraction. There are major arteries in the area of the frenulum so this may explain the excessive bleeding. (This is also where babies are most likely to hemmorhage from when they are circumcised).

It may also be that there is some minor tissue inflammation going on, like yeast or something, which is making the skin more susceptible to breakdown.

I think it's possible that an occasional tear will just heal up and be fine. But, if continuing problems occur, a consult might be in order, and perhaps a steroid or other minor procedure could loosen the tissue.

Another thing to consider (sorry, I don't know if this is too graphic or against the UA), is that oral sex with a circumcised and uncircumcised partner may call for differences in technique. The circumcised penis often requires vigorous stimulation, whereas the intact penis is more receptive to smaller and subtler movements. With the mobility of the foreskin, too rough of a technique may produce more strain on the tissue than is desirable or pleasurable, and could possible produce even strain to cause a tear. I read a post once from an intact man who pointed out that women who were used to giving oral sex to a circ'ed man were often too rough with his penis.

When I first started having intercourse, I did have a small tear once on the frenulum.

I put some neosporin on it and let it heal for about four days. Never had trouble since. When women first start having sex, pain, bleeding and tearing can happen too. If it's happening on a consistent basis that's cause for concern.

He and my friend have been together for a few months, and this is the first time it has happened. She was a little freaked out by it, so I told her I'd see what I could find out.

Is he able to retract back all the way when he's erect? Does he seem clean and healthy there other than the bleeding?

He is around my age (I honestly dont know exactly ) so about 22/23. My friend has been with him since January, and this is the first time it has happened with her. It is not the first time it has happened to him though.

If he has a tight frenulum that could cause it if the bleeding is happening in that area. There is a very simple surgery they can do were they cut little notches in the the frenulum so that it gives more. This does tho cause a bit of nerve damage to the frenulum but if it is really tight then it would be make sense to choose the little cuts.

He can try doing simple stretching with the foreskin as well to make it more loose.

Sounds like you've already gotten good advice to pass on to your friend, but I just wanted to agree that this doesn't sound normal at all. I've been with my intact dh for 12+ years and he's never had any bleeding at all as a result of/during sex.

I hope he can figure out what is going on.

My ex had this problem once in awhile. If there wasn't enough lubrication on both parts or it was too tight inside, he would sometimes "tear a bit" (I hope that's not against TOS since we're talking about it in a medical standpoint) as he put it.

If it happens A LOT I'd get it checked out as it may be a tight frenulum. If it's once in awhile, I wouldn't be TOO worried - sometimes I bleed (even with an intact man) for the same reasons. It's not often and the occations are few and far between so I don't worry about it.

Is it possible that activities were more vigorous than previously?

I'm not sure. I will pass on the info about being gentler with it, I'm pretty sure her ex was circumcized, although we didnt talk much about it. If it happens again I will point him/her to the other possibilities. Thanks!
