The following is the press release regarding the nurse-out. iParty has given us permission to release it freely. Please feel free to share!!

iParty’s Policy to Accommodate Breastfeeding Moms Gains Attention:

“Nurse Out” Planned for Saturday

iParty, New England’s largest party supply company, has, as many know, been at the center of a spirited discussion regarding the issue of public breastfeeding. iParty founders Sal Perisano and Dorice Dionne have been long-time supporters of the Kids Fund at Boston Medical Center which funded the Breastfeeding Center at the hospital.

iParty has established a policy accommodating mothers who wish to breastfeed in their stores and has communicated this new policy to their employees. On Saturday, April 28th, a group of moms looking to gain public awareness for this cause will be at the iParty store in South Weymouth to show support for the response and decisions iParty has made. “We’re happy to have them,” says Perisano. “We believe that as a corporate citizen it’s our responsibility to listen to our customers, and accommodate a variety of needs. We hope that we’ve done that in this instance.”

Julie Wheelan, one of the organizers of the “nurse-out” responds, “We are really pleased with iParty’s response and their decision to create a store policy surrounding nursing moms. We are using the positive outcome of what could have been an unfortunate situation to create a supportive atmosphere surrounding breastfeeding mothers, their babies and iParty’s very responsible actions in this matter. We are not protesting iParty. It is quite the opposite. We are thanking them for understanding our issue.”

Julie,
Are they going to provide "privacy" as they alluded to in that first article, or allow a mom to NIP without bugging her?
Yeah...? Sounds like they wanna usher nursing moms into a corner or something. :

I doubt it. They said they would provide snacks and chairs. I assume the chairs are for nursing in, so you don't have to sit on the floor. So I'm going to bet there will be no shunning.

OP, am I right?

You're right, their policy is to allow mothers to nurse wherever they are most comfortable. I'm going to make sure that the press pushes them into publicly sharing exactly what their new policy entails. Any suggestions are welcome!

I say good for them. They deserve a pat on the back.

Lending Support

I am not yet a Mom but I am a student Midwife and a lactivist to be sure! What is the feeling on non-Moms coming to the iParty "nurse-out" and other events to show support? Personally I'm hoping this will attract enough positive attention to push MA to pass legislation allowing women to bf wherever they and their children need and want to! Is anyone bringing a copy of the ? I recommended it to the iParty folks when I called them to voice my opinion Tuesday morning. Anyway, let me know! Thanks!

I'm having some stickers made up to present (hopefully on camera) along with a suggestion that they post these at their stores to really show their support for BF moms. I think anyone who feels the need to support this issue is welcome, power in numbers sista!!!!!

Address clarification???

According to an earlier thread the S. Weymouth, MA store is located at 35 Pleasant St.

According to the mapquest link on Iparty's website, the address is 52 Pleasant Valley Rd. Their phone number is 781-682-9600, for anyone who would like to call and double check.

I called and they confirmed the Mapquest address, above, which is also Rt 18. They are in a shopping plaza, with a CVS, Marshalls, and Panda Palace restaurant (formerly Applebly's).

If you take the highway, it is Rt 3. Depending upon whether you are coming from the North or South it is either exit 16B or 16A respectively. I recommend Mapquesting it in advance because the exits are complicated. At one or both of them you are forced to take a right so if you picked the wrong exit you have to go a bit down the road before you can take a left. Also, a U-turn is not physically possible due to a median even if you are otherwise daring enough to try it.

To confuse things further mapquest shows an exit 16 (not 16A or 16B), I have no idea why that is.

Hope to see some of you there.

iParty Nurse Out press release

Hi,
I am in Ma and I hope to attend tomorrow. I sent the press release to Fox25 and a producer just called me looking for details. The press release doesn't contain the time of the Nurse Out or contact info, both essential to the media. It is also a little confusing, is iParty taking part in the planning? Based on this press release I think producers will start calling iParty for details. Will iParty have the correct information to give out? Also, will anything be happening at any other iParty stores?

Thanks!
Elizabeth

I believe that the NURSE OUT is slated to begin at 10am, I would think that this would be relative to when people get there. I am always late, so I will probably going to breeze in about 20 minutes to an hour late I am not sure but I think that if you pm BabyBoobieAddict you might get a faster, more accurate response....

Ah, so tempting to make a sticker for my son that says...

iParty

at the breast!

And a note on directions/confusion, make sure you don't get confused between itzaparty and iparty. There aer both in Weymouth and I got them confused once.

Here's from Julie's post which should probably be added to the press release info:

We are going to meet at the store at 35 Pleasant St, South Weymouth, MA 02190 at 10AM on Saturday 4/28. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me for more info. If you could let me know you're coming that would be great so we can have a rough idea of how many moms we're going to have. This is the store's phone number in case you need directions (781) 682-9600.

jessjgh1: Iparty at the Intersection of both streets?

jessjgh1,
It looks like Iparty is at the Intersection of both streets, so both addresses are probably accurate.

Yup!! You're right. Unfortunately I'm in Providence so I can't be much of a help with this. I would encourage you to call the store for more detailed directions if you're not sure!

P.S. There is some FANTASTIC news lurking on the horizon......I'll post as soon as I have confirmation!

“It's not what we would have liked (the manager) to have said, and we're sorry, we're disappointed that he did,” Dionne said.

Dionne said the company “will make our managers aware that women might need to have some private space and to see how that can be accommodated.”
This is why I was asking

I spoke to Melissa Tracy, she is THRILLED about the nurse out!!! I am still waiting to her from her on whether she and her family will attand. She said she's kind of media'd out. (Not that I can blame her with a toddler and a nursling and all that's happened this week!)

The biggest surprise was that she had absolutley no idea about the event but was very touched that we are rallying behind her. She is happy with the response from iParty and fully supports our efforts!!!!!

yea! That was my first guess!! My second was going to be that one of the representatives was going to join us tomorrow!!
