Keller Michael born April 24th @ 1:48pm. 9lb 110z and 21 inches. He is a joy and wonderful nurser.
Will write a better birth story later but after 41 hours I am still processing it all.
Sunday
5:30pm - Induced with Cervidil, no pain meds
Monday
7am - Dilated to 3, laboring on my own
1pm - Not dilated further, put on pitocin, muscle relaxer for some cramping
5pm - Dilated to 4, increase pitocin, epidural (ick)
7pm - No further dilation, increase pitocin
11pm - Dilated to 6, increase pitocin, break waters, muscle relaxer for further hip cramping
Midnight - No further dilation, talk of c-section but midwife holds firm for me for vaginal birth
Tuesday
5am - Dilated to 8.5, pitocin increased, epidural wearing off
9am - Dilated to 9.5, small cervical lip
10:30am - Dilated to 10, cervical lip clear
11:00am - Pushing starts
11:45 am - Not pushing well, very numb, epidural and all pain meds discontinued (ouch! but yeah!!!) Immediate fever of 100.3 starts and continues into post labor.
1:00pm - Further talk of c-section, midwife thinks we can do it naturally and we keep pushing
1:48pm - Keller arrives! With a cord around his neck and a bit of mucus in his lungs but a big 9lb 11oz and very happy for being 42 weeks +.
No tearing, a couple stitches internally for some "skid marks" but nothing major. It wasn't exactly med free but I pushed for almost 2 hours with no meds and I did it. My arms are sore from pulling on the back of my legs and from being on my hands and knees, but it was worth it.
Not the peaceful waterbirth we had imagined but we could not thank our midwife more for holding off on c-section and keeping meds to a minimum when she knew he just needed a little bit of encouragement to come out!
