kefir/pregnancy thread....TMI warning

Am I correct in assuming that (homemade/raw milk)kefir will work the same, if not better, than yogurt for internally treating a possible YI? Can someone tell me how/when they apply this type of treatment. Before bed? Do you just put it on like you would a lotion, mostly externally? Or more like an OTC cream treatment where you put a bunch up in there?

So gross, I know. But I am slightly itchy and red. No discharge but the only other YI I got was at the end of last pregnancy and I don't want to get another this time.

Thanks.

Interesting question (sorry that I am no help), but just thinking -both yougurt and kefir have good bacteria that could help I suppose.

Yes, kefir works very well and best would be to somehow get it up there. I used a syringe I got at the pharmacy before bedtime, pretty much just like a OTC cream for a week or so. I ended up using about 5ml or so per use.

In pregnancy, yogurt was the only thing that worked consistently but it wasn't quite enough since those yeasties had multiplied so what my MW had me to was treat with an OTC cream for a week and then alternate yogurt and OTC cream for two weeks. This was after repeated courses of the OTC cream and a prescription one though, since nothing was working at that point.

I soaked tampons in yogurt when I was preggo

Nothing gross about it if you ask me. WE've all had babies, and once that happens modesty somehow goes out the window!

you can also try a whole clove of garlic inserted before bed and removed in the morning.
