I'm obsessed!

With baby carriers. I keep reading about them and drooling... and dreaming.
All I have is a Moby that I used with DD. It's still in great shape, so DH doesn't see any reason that I need anything else.
I'm really, really wanting a pouch and a mei tai, though. And the more I look at sites the more convinced I am that I need them. Unfortunately, there's no room in the budget, especially for a non necessity. This leaves me pretty bummed, and I think I might try to make at least one.
What do you think moms? Am I really fine with just a moby? If you had to choose a mei tai or a pouch to go along with a moby, which would you choose?

I'm not thrilled about pouches (not versatile enough for me) so I'd say, go with the Mei Tai.

I will take this opportunity to announce that I just finished making the Frankenkozy for the new baby! So now we have a Maya Wrap, an Ella Roo, and a Frankenkozy. I think I should probably stop there... but there are so many others to try! Sigh.

I have 11 carriers We carried ds for a LONG time and never used a stroller much (and we live in NYC so lots of walking). A moby is good in the beginning and I have one for the early days, but depending on the weight of your baby, they are not a great long term carrier IMO. Mine will be ready to be passed on by 6 months I suspect. By 20 lbs, I would not use a Moby at all for sure.

That said, I would look for something in addition. The toss up between a pouch and MT is in some ways easy to answer because a MT is so fabulous and flexible. That said, the ones without padded straps I am really not a fan of. Lots of the ones avaialble, especially WAHM ones, have thin and attractive, but not so functional IMO, straps. If you can get one with padded straps, that would be my first choice. These are often more pricey though.

The pouch is going to be cheaper no matter what (for the most part at least). They are also wonderful and if you get one with some padding for their legs, they can be used with kidds who are 2-3 depending on weight IME. I have a hotsling, a WAHM pouch, and a Mammas Milk and the Mammas Milk is the best one of those for sure.

I like buying them used because you can get them for about 2\3 or 1\2 the price usually!

I don't count my carriers.

Go with the mei tai. I love pouches at first, but once they are bigger I like having the weight evened out on both shoulders and hips/waist. And, I completely agree with MSAX to buy them used - buy a GOOD mei tai used (my favorite is the Kozy, and I'll be getting a Babyhawk in a few months) instead of a cheaper one. I just think they're so much better! I used Christmas money to buy my first Kozy, and it was so worth it. I should get a refund on some of that money, though, because my husband used it just as much!

ITA w/ MSAX! A moby is great until they get bigger. I'd definately try to save for a good mei tai as well. You can find some awesome deals at www.thebabywearer.com Or..you could go w/ another really good non-stretchy wrap and that will give you tons of options from birth to toddlerhood!
