Yes, fraternal are always di/di (well, there's even speculation on that right now, but it's still in early research phase as I understand it) and free from risks of TTTS. ID twins can be mo/mo (uncommon but risky for many reasons), mono/di (risk of TTTS), or di/di. As for u/s, that peak or lambda sign, as it's called, is best seen sometime between 11-14 weeks if it's there--indicating di/di. But, if you suspect twins and aren't opposed to u/s, it can't hurt at all to have one sooner b/c then you can shift your diet and any other planning you might want to do if you find out you're lucky enough to have twins!
Best wishes and let us know what you find out!

Okay, that makes good sense! Hopefully we can see anything we need to see (like, if there are really two or not! ) tomorrow - I'll be 18wks tomorrow. Just praying for healthy babe(s) now.

Knowing soon is so good. I wasn't going to do any ultrasound, but with suspecting twins, I knew that I just HAD to know because I had to know how to alter my diet, etc. So glad, because I overnight changed what I was doing.

Okay, stupid question.. but what would by twins be considered, di/di?? They are ID but had seperate sacs/placentas???

Yup. Mine, too. Well, we're presuming ours are id--since 1 month after birth, they have been exactly the same size (height and weight w/in 1 oz.) and lately we've been mixing them up more and more!

Maybe she passed out from shock and there's 3 in there :

Even though I totally *knew* I was having twins, it was still a shock to see the proof on the u/s.

We had a loooong day just 'cause I scheduled the u/s on a day when I already had stuff going on. But it was great!

So, we have....

ONE!

One active, healthy little baby that's measuring exactly on for my dates!

No indication of why I'm measuring so big.

After my pregnancies apparently my uterus doesn't shrink back as fast, and now my MW is thinking maybe it's just stretching sooner this time, too. I dunno, but it was pretty clear that there's just one! My DH is VERY relieved! And thankfully my boys, who had overheard the discussions, weren't too dissapointed in there being only one!

Thanks, mamas, for all the help and support!!

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should be relieved or bummed! I LOVE the idea of twins - but I never did have a certainty that this was the time for us to have them. I'd be thrilled if we did, of course, but wasn't totally at peace with it, kwim? So I'll have to live vivariously through all of you twin mamas!!

When I found out I was having twins, I was certain it wasn't the time for us to have them (within one week of moving across the country and further away from family). Now that we've had them for 9 months, I'm quite sure it was

Congrats on the healthy baby--there are some really nice things about having one at a time too.

Twins

Hi I am new to the group, I will introduce myself first and then reply to all the "twin talk"
I am a mother to 9 and expecting our 10th in Dec.
My twins are 7, I found out at 24 weeks that I was having twins. After years of wishful thinking and dreaming. I use a midwife, I usually do not contact her until around 20+ weeks. So she came at 23 weeks, she measured me and I was measuring 37 weeks, lol yeah !Her expression on her face was priceless.
After measuring me she said, are you sure about your due date I was certain, no doubts whatsoever. I went to the bathroom and when I came out she was standing outside the door with the same "look" on her face. She said we need to talk about some things, if there is noway the date is wrong then we are probably looking at twins. I scheduled an U/S at the end of that week. (which put me at 24 weeks) The Doc came in and said well what we probably have here is a larger uterus because this is your 6th pregnancy. All the while I am thinking, that much larger? She started the U/S and said see look there is the baby everything looks normal lets kinda look around at then we will get some measurements of the baby. She looked around alright. Her next words were and OH MY there is another baby. We had the other children waiting in the waiting room and when we came out they all said WELL?
