stripping the membranes

I'm not sure who's all left on this thread that knows anything about this, but at my last appt on friday, I asked my OB to do it for me. She thought for sure I would've gone into labor this weekend for how things have been going for me. But, I'm still here, patiently waiting, on my due date.

My Q is I"ve been having steady bloody discharge since she did this. At times it's much worse, and I don't know if I'm still having it from the membrane stripping on Friday, or the strong cx from yesterday.

Anyone have any experience on this, how long I'm supposed to be having bloody dishcarge for?

I wanted this done b/c she said if I'm still around for my next appt on Friday, then we'd schedule an induction for the following week as they like to do those in the 41st week. I *really* don't want an induction

I'm still here - I can't believe you haven't had the baby yet even without the membrane stripping with the amount of times you've already had bloody show!!!!

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with this...I'd think the blood is still a result from the stripping - but I'd probaby call or post on the birth professionals forum...I hope you are okay. I am 40w, 3-5 days (depending on who's estimate) and I just have absolutely no sign that labor is imminent! i'm hoping both our babies get here soon!

wow, I was just wondering if you were still around this morning. Remember that it doesn't necessarily mean anything if you have signs or not when that babe will come. With my 1st, I woke up to thinking I was peeing myself. My waters sprung a leak, and went from there. WIth my 2nd DC, I woke up at 4am to go pee, and I had some bloody discharge. My cx started right away. I didn't have any imminent signs beforehand that that was going to be the day.

I'm a bit tired of the seemingly constant bloody show/discharge. My OB's all kept saying that I'd be going soon, but now we're talking about induction sometime next week. The dang bloody discharge has kept me and DH apart, so to say. It's like constantly starting your AF for the last, oh, 8 weeks!

Hang in there. I know there's only a couple of us left now. Maybe we should join the may DDC?

Just keep telling yourself that all this now will probably mean less work later, right?!

I know my OB and mw just said to worry if the blood was 'period-like' - otherwise nothing to worry about. They said up to 48 hours on reacting from intercourse, exams, and stripping. Going past that could just be from your cervix working to dilate in relation to the stripping.

I'm probably going to be going through the same thing on Wednesday. I'll probably consent to it because I'll be almost 41 weeks, and in going for a vbac they're nervous at the 42 week mark. I want to try to get going before they start pushing interventions on me I don't want.

I hope all your signs turn into symptoms really soon.

I'm hoping it's all from my cervix trying to do something. I've been feeling the usual crampiness this a.m., which have turned into those darling pressure-like cx. I'm having them as I sit here.

I really thought that having the stripping would hurt really hurt bad, but it didn't. It hurt afterwards for the rest of the day....bad cramping and sore, but that's it. This is the longest pg for me, and my last. I just really don't want to be induced. The whole family has a cold right now, so I don't even think DH and I would be up to doing any natural stimulation. Plus, it's a big turn off for both of us with the bloody discharge.

Hopefully your body will kick into gear so you don't face an induction too!

how do you feel afterwards? DId it hurt for you while you were getting it done?

oh, can I add that my body has been cleansing itself out since saturday? Usually there's no warning either. I sit to go pee, and well, other stuff decides to come on out w/out a fair warning

I would say it was uncomfortable... my hips and butt hurt now for some reason ... I guess I am a little crampy.

You're lucky as I've heard it really hurts for some women during the VE, and it hurt pretty bad for me afterwards. Did you get any cx since yesterday?

I had quite a lot of bloody gooky stuff throughout the day. No ctx really. Then the blood petered out and got spotty. Around 5 pm I started having ctx and started getting more blood and mucus again. It lasted most of the evening. I woke up at 3 am with one good ctx but that was it since then.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed by my results. The bleeding tapered off for me late last night, like in the wee morning hours. I was then just having a lot of watery d/c. Now, it's back to spotting stuff mixed in with it. I had some bad cramps yesterday and cx every 5 minutes last night, but this a.m. I'm back to cramping. I can't walk anymore. My feet get too swollen and my back hurts. DTD with Dh is the last thing on my mind right now. I just don't know anything else to do. EPO gives me the poops (even worse), so I don't want to go that route. Although I was wondering if it would have the same effect rubbing it on my stomach instead of ingesting it...

I am SO sick of this prodromal crap!! I know it's my body way of gearing up, but this is totally ridiculous!!

You could insert it vaginally... my mw says my cervix is all mushy now - a few weeks ago it was firm. I stopped taking it orally 2 days ago- it makes me burp and it tastes awful. I have also stopped dtd. At this point all I want to do is lay on my bed and watch tv. I am such a bitchy person these days. I dont answer the phone, I dont want to talk to or see anyone.

Wow, I'm still here waiting, too. This morning I got my membranes stripped. I'm at 41.3 today and planning a homebirth. My first came at 40.6 and I just really want to have this baby before the weekend. Anyway, I was getting so bitchy and frustrated this weekend that I started a blog so people would stop calling and asking. Unfortunately it didn't work and I've been getting more calls than usual.

Anyway, the stripping was four or so hours ago and it didn't hurt (weird because vag exams always hurt me in the past) and there was no blood or anything and I've only had some mild cramping since then, so I'm thinking its not working for me. My midwife said its also supposed to produce natural prostaglandins, which should make you have loose stools and hopefully start labor.

Oh, that sucks, but totally how I would imagine New Yorkers to respond. I am so sorry.

In the suburbs I get the Starbucks lady at the drivethru making wide eyes and asking lots of personal questions about my due date and giving advice. I wanted to mow the lawn today, but I couldn't deal with the neighbors stares and questions about if the baby is here yet. (Duh)

On my due date I went and got a pedicure because I deserved it and when the lady asked me when I was due and I said "today" her eyes bugged out of her head - as though I was about to squirt the kid out right onto her. Then she asked me if I was dialated. I dont even know her name and she is asking about my cervix. :

I had the exact same thing happen to me at a nail place on my due date. People are so strange. I guess it just makes me sad how messed up our country's model for childbirth is and what women think is "normal."

I was outside a lot yesterday w/the kids. One of the neighbors asked when I"m due and I replied "yesterday". My god, people honestly think you're supposed to drop that baby out w/out any warning on your EDD? I'm almost inclined to staying inside, but then again, it's so nice out, and why should my kids suffer b/c of ignorant people?

My lovely bloody discharge stopped. I didn't have hardly any yesterday (very minimal), but has been very watery and yellow. I REALLY don't want to be induced next week, but I'm losing trust in my body. Before, I didn't trust my body to hold onto the pg, now it won't let it go

Yeah I am having a hard time too. My MW is coming tomorrow with an acupuncturist. Being a vbac and a hb I do have a time limit and as much as I would like to just let things happen ... I went that route last time and ended up with a repeat c/s... so I figure this time I will do all I can to get things moving.
