Is it possible to develop allergies at 2.5?

In the last couple months dd has reacted to a few things she's never reacted to in the past. Macaroni and cheese, hard boiled egg, and most recently pizza. The reaction is always similar. Red, splotchy patches all over her face.

I have started wondering about a dairy allergy because she has frequent ear infections as well as a few other "signs" but it seems strange she'd start reacting to so many things at once.

Yes absolutely. DS is allergic to both egg and dairy. I would cut both out for at least 6 months and have her tested in the mean time (allergy testing is not 100% accurate).

Someone, here I think, said a college room mate dev'p an allergy to peanuts in college. She never had the allergy until then. I didn't dev'p seasonal allergies until I was 21.

I agree with Caden's Mom, get some testing and see what you are dealing with. It could be just the egg white and not they yoke (as my DD was allergic too.) Her allergies (milk and egg whites) are pretty mild now. She doesn't drink milk still or eat ice cream and other major dairy products, but can eat almost everything else, including goldfish crackers, cake and cookies. So it makes like a lot easier. Oh she can even have pizza now and loves it. So sorry to hear about your DD's problems. Mine is around the same age, but is outgrowing it instead of into it. Still I can't seem to relax and not think of milk as the enemy anymore.

My DD's tell was the same, red splotchy face rash. When she was younger and had too much she would vomit.

I'm planning on asking for a referral to an allergist but I worry because we see an MD and I can see her saying something like, "She wouldn't develop food allergies now." Or something along those lines.

But I have a slew of allergies and I get the same splotchy face. I almost think she's reacting to a few different things. First, the mac & cheese. That could be egg or dairy. Then obviously the hard boiled egg is egg. The pizza I really feel was the tomato sauce because the rash was different. It wasn't splotchy and all over her face, it was right around her mouth and where the sauce touched her skin.

I don't understand why a MD would say that. A person can develop allergies at any age. But if they are an infant or very young, they are more likely to outgrow the allergy.

I just really need to find a new doctor. I see her saying that because when ds was 2 months old, having green stools, vomiting, losing weight, etc. I had numerous people tell me it sounded like a possible food sensitivity and when I mentioned it to the doctor she completely brushed me off and said "food allergies are way overrated and the chance that he has a sensitivity/allergy is very rare." Nevermind the fact that I have a ton of food allergies so it does run in the family. She just didn't pursue the allergy thing at all.

Wow, this doctor needs to get a clue. Did you happen to read Parade Magazine in yesterdays Sunday paper? They had good size article on the alarming increase in allergies. The one person they quoted said its at crisis level (paraphrasing here).

I still really don't know why this has moved so fast. DD was just eating some Annie's bunnies cheddar crackers and broke out again. This time also on her chest. I know it has to be dairy, partially.

I'm not sure what to do. Can I cut out dairy completely from her diet? I mean, I know I can cut it out but I feel like I need to replace it for her to get the nutrients she needs. I fear she wouldn't get enough of what she needs since dairy makes up a huge portion of her diet.

The main thing is to find a substitute for the fat the milk was providing. Other than that, cow's milk isn't all that healthy for humans (despite my own love of cheese). Use a lot of oil in everything you make for her.

allergists are idiots! that is the conclusion i have come to with all the crapola we went through. plus, they dont recognize intolerances, which are very serious.
