SO I had an appointment to renew DD and add me a week or so ago but then they wanted me to pay $10 for a pregancy test and I had doctors proof : : : ummm no! and I ended up walking out angry the next Monday I called was calmer and complained and they told me my doctors proof was fine (ya think?) so we rescheduled for May 12th. Today I call to see if I can't move up the apointment and they have an opening for this Wednesday 9better) and I ask again about the pregancy proof just to be sure and I'm told I dont need ANY proof basically that they take my word for it. : :

AMEN sister!!! I hate dealing with the WIC people. After a lot of trouble I decided it wasn't worth it anymore for me to be on it. I jumped through all the hoops for the kids, so they are both on it and I don't have to deal with them for another 7 weeks, but I just didn't care enough to bother to get me on. We don't use all the milk we get anyway. And I can't eat cheese while I'm pregnant, so I don't really need it. I don't buy the cheap eggs, I always get free range, just a personal preference. I do use the cereal and could use more, but that's about the only thing we actually go through all of. We're stocked up on peanut butter for months to come. Anyway, you should need your dr's proof, but that should be fine. I would have left angry too. Good luck.

Yea I'm really trying to decide if its worth it. There are time like now that ANY food would be really nice but honestly a lot of the stuff we don't use. I don't get the milk we use milk but I'll only buy organic hormone free same with the eggs. I will use the cheese and cereal and I'd eventually use peanutbutter but I'm not sure what age they give it. Ans the juice gets dolled out over time.

What a pain in the ass! This is yet another reason why I didn't even take the WIC information from my midwife.

We dropped WIC, too. Too much hassle for not-so-great food. I've been petitioning the program to open up to organics, but I'm sure I'm in the minority. I'd be willing to take less items if I could get organic.

I do miss the free peanut butter and cheese.

: I Hear YOU!!!:

While waiting for mine last thurs, I was lovin the Breastfead babies welcome here Pic on the wall. Than at our appt the WIC lady told me that we now do not have to set up a dietary intervention for our 2nd DS. " He now falls into the Not at risk catagory" I said " What???" Oh I was sooooo mad!! He was a very big, lovin his Mommy milk baby, but has since grown very tall and is slim. That while checking our 3rd DS blood I put him to the breast for comfort and she quickly shut the door saying " Ohhhhhh you need privacy!" OMG! I was not even hanging out! Than she told me that I neeed to wean because nursing while preg causes pre-term labor. HUH! Forget that! Oh and one more thing, she had to check to see her advisior if she could give me vouchers since I did not Vac them!!!!!! Deeeeeeeeep Breath!!:

the one thing I actually liked about the local WIC was how positive they were about breastfeeding. DD was just shy of 3 when we moved here and when I applied for WIC here and when I nursed her in the office thy were all like good job yea way to go.. However its obviously not rubbed off in this town I have in my enire 2 years seen ANYONE nurse both in office or anywhere Obviously someone does (there are some mamas from my HT here ) I've only seen bottles though

Wow, we must have a really good WIC office! I haven't had one single problem with them, and they are always very nice. I didn't have to have any proof at all! When I went in to put myself on, I told her that there was a risk of m/c, and she said that was fine, that even with a m/c, you can still be on WIC for 6 months after it! Sorry they gave you hassle.

I'm sorry, I have found most ALL gov agency type organizations a nightmare to deal with.. my son is on DPA insurance due to spec needs (autism) and I jsut got a letter terminating his coverage?? WTF??? WHY??? I mean, yeah, he IS recovering due to ALL our alternative intervention (NONE of which their STUPID ins paid for anyway...) but he is still officially DX??? I have called them 5x's and only get VM with NO call back.. it is SOOOOOO frustrating.

I hope you get things straight soon (and me too!)

Laura

for the record , I forget who was given crap for WIC and no vax.. originally I was told he could not have DPA gov ins BC we are no vax.. this is total BS, and would fall under religious discrimination laws.. jump over to the vax forum for all the state law code #'s and info and stick it where the sun doesn't shine (I did and no probs since, well, that I know of,,, hmmmm wonder if this is vax related??)

It's been years since I was on WIC with my first two boys and I don't miss it. You get crap from the office and then you get crap from people behind you in the grocery store who feel your checks are holding up the line. Grr... I always smile and show patience when the people in front of me on WIC look uncomfortable. I was there once too.

And I'll tell you, they wouldn't let us on WIC these days, but sometimes we are just as "needy." Like this week I have run out of money. Completely drained dry. I get so stressed when that happens!

The hubster gets paid today and will be home tomorrow night or Thurssday evening from his biz trip to give me some (we have different bank accounts), but having maybe $10 in my wallet that will only be to pay for school lunches until then really freaks me out. I don't have enough groceries to pack their lunches and not enough money to buy groceries. Ugh...

I have had WIC since my first daughter and really havent had too many problems....a couple of scheduling BS but nothing mahor. I hate it that they wont give you vouchers for HEALTHY food but in reality the vouchers fill a gap for us that food stamps leaves out as far as $$$ per month. I hate that I cant get free range eggs ( I MEAN HATE IT)-and dont understand why I cant get organic natural peanut butter when it costs the same as JIF and thats acceptable. The only thing we dont use up is the cereal....I get it though and give it away or whatever. I wonder who you contact EXACTLY about voicing concern for truly healthy food?
