Please tell me I'm not the only one here who has done something like this.
Yesterday, I had to go meet my husband downtown at a bike race. The plans got a bit screwed up, to the extent that I didn't get any lunch aside from a handful of grapes. By around 2 or 2:30, I'm getting pretty hungry and I mention to my husband that we should go get something to eat. Well, he wanders off and ends up talking with some people and it's over an hour before he's ready to go. Grrr.....
So it's 3:30, I haven't eaten since 9 am, and we're just setting off to look for lunch. Every place we try is either closed for lunch, or he doesn't want to go there. My blood sugar is dropping lower, and lower and lower, and he's just ignoring the danger signs. Finally, he says, "I'm not that hungry, I think we're just going to have to pass on lunch. I don't feel like eating out with Molly right now anyway."
(Keep in mind that we're in the middle of a busy pedestrian mall at this point. And we're on bikes, with my 2 year old in the trailer.)
I'm sure I meant to explain, calmly, that I hadn't eaten, and although I appreciate how frustrating it can be to eat out with a fussy 2 year old, and I know he doesn't like to leave his precious bike outside for even the few minutes it would take to go in and order something to eat, I really needed to get *something* into my stomach before I get homicidal. Instead, it came out more like me screaming in the middle of the sidewalk "I need something to eat, and I F***ing need it NOW!!! I'm pregnant, my blood sugar is in my toes, and I don't give a damn what you think or what you want!!!"
The stares from the couple with the baby walking by us at that point were priceless. (Him: shocked and appalled. Her: sympathetic)
I took off, and went back to the first of the half dozen or so places that he had initially rejected as potential lunch spots, and ordered food for me and Mo. He eventually caught up, and after I had a few bites and calmed down, I relented and gave him some money so he could get himself something to eat. (He wouldn't admit, it, but his blood sugar was low and he was cranky, too.)
I'm so embarrased at making such a scene!!

But I apologized once I'd had a chance to sit down, drink some water, and eat a cinnamon bun
