It's a basket of fun and games for the older child to amuse them while the younger one is nursing. We do plan on tandem nursing, and last time I got pretty good at nursing on the go using a sling/wrap, but I know that there are going to be a lot of times (especially right at first) when I'm just not going to be able to hold/cuddle my 2yo since my hands will be filled with my newborn!
I've seen other mamas on mdc describe these baskets/boxes of "special" toys designed to get everyone through the first few weeks and it seemed like a great idea.
Since dd is just now getting into the whole "doll house" thing I was thinking the basket would include some doll house people/furniture (and the new babe will "bring" dd a dollhouse when she comes home from the hospital...I know some mamas feel strongly against this, but I'm not put off by a little bribery), some yummy snacks that dd doesn't get very often, some new beads/string, some new coloring books, and probably a few new story books that I can read to her even if my lap/breasts/hands are occupied with the new babe.
Depending on how she reacts, I might also find a little baby doll and sling for her to play with/care for...about 6 months ago she was really big on breastfeeding her toys but she doesn't do that anymore. But once Roro is here it may be a new story. So the basket might also have things for "her" baby to play with...
It may not distract her for long, but it can't hurt to try!
