First, Dr. Jen invited me to peek into this group because I am a birth worker and a runner (not well, not fast, and not far).
Second, woke up this morning and had this song playing in my head, so I had to do something about it. Think "It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to." Yes, I know that song makes me really old. But the words were altered, "It's my birthday and I'll run if I want to." So, off I went for a nice 2.8 mile run. Felt so much better than if I had stayed in bed and "pampered" myself by sleeping in like my family thought I should.
As for the running, I did a 5K 2 years ago and another, bettering my time, a month later. I was training by running 6-7 days each week, 2-3 miles at a time. After the second 5K couldn't shake the pain in my hip. Many doctor visits, massages, and PT later, come to find out I had a femur fracture on the compression side. So finally hip is better and I am back running, slowly, 3 days each week never more than 3 miles, but I am checking the local 5Ks again and planning to wog one in late May/ early June.
So thanks to Dr. Jen for inviting me, because I needed the inspiration.
Now back to lurking.

Aurora and Bex and mothercat!!! (And anyone else who is new to this group. You'll be so glad you joined in!)
That's so tough! Before now, I've never really stuck to a training schedule. I think it's because of that Tony Robbins seminar I went to. Seriously. I think I was a bit hypnotized, but in a good way. So, when the training became a must, it had to take priority over everything else. When there were childcare issues, I sought out solutions that had never occured to me before. I demanded participation from my family without feeling guilty about it...before I would have felt guilty for the time committment. You can do it! You can get your support system behind you and do it!! I know that if something major had come up for me, (like apendicitis or injury or family problems) it would have been heartbreaking to pass on the marathon but that's what would have happened. I guess I was really lucky that nothing major got in the way. But, you can do this! We can help you brainstorm support system ideas.
I have a lot of issues with school systems and the thought of going back for an MA really gives me heartburn. Or something that feels icky in my gut. But, hopefully your ds will find his own way. I had to do it all on my own without my parents help, so I think that really helped get me through it...I had to earn every penny I handed over to the finance dept. Giving him a logical consequence like withdrawing his funding sounds like a great way to go!
Hi Bex - please do stay! I have gone in and out of running for several years after running track in HS, then stopped for 2 years, then just started back up this past October, and this group of mamas really keeps me going!
I actually gotta get a move on the TM right now, but I'll email later today about plans for meet up.

OR, <mylastname>smeander.blogspot.com
running outside after months and months of the TM?
: I was becoming distinctly short of patience

4-5 times a week, relatively low mileage.

Tonight I spent trying to learn the popcorn stitch. Haven't quite mastered it yet. Will keep you updated.
