cholestasis

has anyone had this condition? i was just diagnosed and put on medication for it and it is driving me absolutely crazy. just wondering if anyone has had this experience..

for anyone who doesn't know what it is, it is a condition related to liver function that causes severe itching all over. it is terrible. mostly bad at night, but lasts most of the day. some people have jaundice accompanied with it apparently (i don't).

Hi,
I had cholestasis. I'm so sorry you are going through this! The good news is that I only had it in my first pregnancy and not my 2nd. And so far, I haven't had it in this one (my 3rd) and I'm 32 weeks along. Oh, and my dc1 was born healthy and fine. They did break my water to induce labor at 38 weeks due to the cholestasis and she was born in less than 3 hours later.

There are some natural remedies that may or may not work. Have you tried drinking warm lemon juice on an empty stomach first thing in the morning? That can cleanse the liver. I've been doing that in this pregnancy. You can pm me if you have more questions.

thanks mamaonthefarm - i have heard of the lemon juice cleanse but haven't tried it yet - tomorrow am!

glad to hear you only had it in your first - freaks me out that many people have it in all pregnancies! i am glad it only developed in week 36, would have gone nuts if i had had it all along. am already going nuts and it has only been a few days.

anyway thanks for the info - much appreciated.. it is kind of a freaky thing..
