I have the kitchenaid grinder. I am upgrading to a Nutrimill, hopefully this week. The kitchenaid grinder doesn't give nearly a fine enough grind. Even on the find setting it's more a coarse meal than a flour. I run mine through the grinder TWICE and it still isn't fine enough.
I would recommend the Nutrimill. You can get the one speed for $200, the variable speed is $260. A friend of mine has one. It can do pastry-fine flour, it's very fast, has a high capacity, and is relatively quiet.

That's good to hear. I was wondering if that's just how grain mills are. I have the kitchenaide attachment but it is really slow and you are right, not very fine flour at all!
I'm curious to know in comparison if other higher end grinders do it much faster? I can put in a few cups and it literally takes 10 minutes it seems! Not to mention it's about the noisiest thing you could possibly do. And I have the kitchenaide600 model, it doesn't make it faster than the lower end one
ETA: Forget it

I didn't read your last line the first time. So it's fast and quiet? I'm gonna have to look into that one
