Keeping milk fresh

I have read in a few places that a pinch of salt added to milk will keep it fresh longer. Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

never heard that

we re-bottle into Qt.s and store in the back of the fridge to keep them cold. The last bottle tastes fresh since it hasn't been constantly exposed to air and temp changes. Before we did this, sometimes the last Qt in the Gal container tasted/smelled sour before the week was over.

Haven't heard that one. The farmer we get our raw milk from said get a thermometer and put it in the fridge. Keep the milk in the coldest spot. For us that is the top shelf. Keep the temp at no warmer than 38 degrees. He said that for every hour the milk is over 38 degrees, a day is taken off its shelf life. He told us the milk could keep for up to 4 weeks, and it does. I usually only get enough to last two weeks because that is all the room we have (enough space for 4 gallons, which we consume in two weeks), but when it managed to hang around for 4 weeks, it was still fresh! And I have a very low tolerance for anything less than fresh...the smell gets to me the minute it turns, long before my family would even notice.
