Losing my chance for a hb. I'm so SAD.

I seriously cannot stop crying.

I live on the border of AZ/Cali/Mex. I'm in AZ. We don't have any hb mw's in my town, not for 3h any direction. I found one in Cali willing to come out here, and she was sure she'd be able to get her AZ license but she called me y'day and told me she won't be able to get it in time. So I can hotel birth in Cali with her, but I can't homebirth in my home in AZ.

I have literally called every midwife in So Cal and have been turned down by everyone. Every single one. I have called about 6 mw's in Phoenix and turned down by all of them -- most will be at the MANA conference, which is right around when I'm due.

I found someone who will attend but another mw who I trust said this person is not a knowledgable or experienced mw. I got a bad vibe when I talked to the person, and my concerns were confirmed.

I do not want to UC. I am willing to drive up to 3.5h one way for prenatals, I'm willing to do anything but I want my homebirth.

Oh, mama.

Don't give up. I thought we were stuck w/ the hospital when we discovered twins, but miracles happen and our OB referred us to a birth center. Now we're discussing whether to give birth at home or at their site.

Have you tried anyone in Tucson? I know it's also far, but there are good people there and they wouldn't have the state licensing problem.

Ask around inthe birth professionals forum.

And good luck. I know how you feel and will keep you & your babe in my thoughts.

Oh, mama! I'm crying! That's so sad!! :

I hope you find someone. Look into Angela's idea of midwives who may fly in.

Do you have a family member that you can stay with and birth there? Or a good friend?

Ha, thanks for the offer.

So far: I've been turned down by nearly every midwife. If they are willing to travel, they are already booked -- which is why I hired my former mw really early in my pregnancy.

I really want a HOME birth. All my in-laws are in San Diego but I really want to give birth at my own home, ya know? I'm sure everyone understands. I want to feel comfortable being naked and making noises and just being in my own space. A hotel birth is equally undesirable just because the whole point is not to pack up my stuff and go somewhere during labor, ya know?

I have one midwife who is about 2.5h away who said she'd talk to her partners and see how they felt about it. Another mw who is like FIVE HOURS away said to call her back if absolutely no one else can do it. So there is still hope.

I had a great midwife in Tucson. She was willing to fly to Houston for me when I was having trouble finding someone here. I know she drives to Phoenix all the time. Do you want (your probably have) her contact info?

I know Gail, and she travels to clients in various states and countries.

If you do end up in San Diego I highly recommend my midwife. She took me at 32 weeks . I know it's hard and the world is falling apart, I felt like that to when another midwife said she can't do it the day I came to sign the contract after me thinking for 3 months she'll be my midwife.

Have you looked people up in Flagstaff? I know that is quite a hike but maybe they know someone? What about looking around your area to see if anyone has UC'd or had a HB? I am sure you did this already...just trying to give you hope. And FWIW I totally did not find a MW until I was 5 months pregnant - she is the only one in this part of IL. I will pass my good luck to you...And i am moving to Phoenix in about 12 days. My Aunt-in-law is a prominant MW in the area and I will get in touch with her to see if she knows anyone...

Thanks everyone, I now have a few more options.

I emailed a couple mw's tonight and I'll call in the morning. I picked up the phone to call that midwife without borders midwife and my dh said, "What are you doing? It's like midnight in Dallas!" Oops.

I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for being so positive.

Just keep saying it- you WILL manifest a HB in Yuma! Thinking of you.

(PS ladies thanks for the link... if I have another it might be abroad and I don't want to go to the hospital here either... MWB is great!)

I'm so glad you're finding more options!! I know you're willing to do an awful lot for this birth and I applaud you for it! I trust you will find the right provider at the right time to be there for your birth!!

Oh and if you want to come to the Houston area, I've got a great one!

Well...I didn't get any closer to finding you a MW...sigh...Here is what my Aunt said...I know she would do it for you but she is miving to New Zealand to take a MW director's position there in like 2 weeks...I'll keep thinking...and don't give up yet - I really thought I would never ifnd anyone and I did - hmmm...scratches head and puts on thinking cap...

Hi Stephanie:

No, I don't know anyone in the Yuma area. Has she gone on any of the midwife internet sites for Arizona? I actually just looked and it doesn't look like there are any homebirth midwives there. There are three listings for midwives, but it looks like they are part of an OB/GYN practice and likely only attend hospital births. There are lots of homebirth midwives in the Phoenix area. Maybe she could come up here until the baby is born and stay with friends/family??? Or maybe compromise with a midwife in the hospital there?
