We are a cosleeping family. I want to replace our mattress with a chemical free or organic mattress. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Tonya

We have all natural latex matresses that are wrapped in organic wool and then organic cotton. We absolutely LOVE them! I'm not sure where you are ... but this is the store where we bought ours. They get their natural mattresses from a company in Los Angeles. Maybe they can give you some information for contacting the manufacturer or something if you are interested.

Can you tell me specifically which mattress you got. I live in Texas and haven't been able to find any nearby locations to purchase a mattress. I am going to have to order it online :-(

I got dd a mattress from here and I LOVE it.

www.woolbed.ca

This will be my next bed. It is especially great because when I lay down with dd and then get up after she has fallen asleep the bed is silent and doesn't move. I think it would be great for co-sleeping.

You would have to call PJ's because they don't have a website other than that front page. We have the all natural latex, medium firm (IIRC). The boys all have medium plush. I would have bought medium plush for us too had I know how darn comfortable they were ... though ours is very nice too, and probably better that it's a little more firm. There are other on-line sites that I have seen, but for us, PJ's is fairly local and also cheaper. So, I would definitely recommend calling them and asking them if they ship or if they know if their supplier ships. They also sell regular mattresses, so if you do call, let them know that you want the all natural/organic latex mattress.

Another thing to consider is you might want to cross-post in Finding Your Tribe under Texas and see if anyone in TX has purchased latex mattresses and where they bought them.

Yep ... the beds don't move, which was so cool when we realized that (after ours got delivered). No more shifting because of the springs. It's also a benefit (for me ) when dh gets up to get one of our boys in the middle of the night (the baby is with us cosleeping and the other two are in their rooms but invariably call for Daddy at some point in time). I don't typically know if dh is leaving or if a child is joining.

We have a Natura latex mattress and we looooooooove it. : It was a little pricier than some alternatives, but it was a much better use of money than some other things we've purchased!

I'm in the Austin area, and there's a store on Lamar called Wildflower Organics, which is where we got our mattress from. You might try looking them up...they might ship elsewhere in Texas.

Which Natura mattress did you purchase? Did you get a pillowtop? If you did, has it had any sagging issues?

Thanks,
Tonya

I don't remember the exact model we got...sorry. We got the kind with the wool topper. We haven't noticed any sagging issues at all, and we've had it about a year. HTH!

We got ours from lifekind.com. Kind of pricey to buy the box springs along with the mattress so we just got the mattress. I totally love it, very comfortable and it doesn't smell terrible. I swear, when I was sleeping on a chemical ridden mattress my ability to speak properly was impaired! You'll enjoy an organic one.

Bumping this thread to see if there are any other ideas. I can't believe I'm thinking of spending this much on a mattress, but I know it will be worth it!

Dax online has some really nice ones. We got the latex/wool topped/organic cotton wrapped crib mattress for DD. Here are the big mattresses. Next time we buy one, we'll get the same thing for us- it is *very* nice.

We outfitted the whole family with mattresses from these wonderful people:

Organic mattresses are a wonderful thing - then you get into the organic pillows, the organic sheets....and suddenly, you don't have enough money left for organic food!

I loovvvvee our natural latex mattress. It's just plain old natural latex. Sooo comfy. It's soft and hard at the same time, which is perfect for us.
