Has anyone ever dyed their faded jeans?

I have a pair of jeans that are slightly faded, but also have that faded part that comes that way that kinda bugs me b/c it is such a contrasting look. They are nice jeans though otherwise, and they fit perfectly. So I was thinking about dyeing them with some of that denim rit dye or maybe that other brand, cant remember the name b/c I thought it might lessen the effect of the faded parts a little.

Has anyone ever re-dyed their denim? Any advice? What does it make the brown stitching look like? Would it make any difference in this case, or would it just make the faded parts a little darker and the darker parts even darker, so the contrast would be same? Thoughts?

TIA

I used to dye my son's faded jeans with rit denim dye in the washer. It looked fine on little boy jeans (He was 3) I don't remember if it dyed gold threads or not, it was before faded jeans were popular and I did it to make his worn out second hand jeans look newer.

I used the denim rit on a pair of my maternity jeans...and it looked kind of purplish, not like regular denim The jeans were originally a medium blue wash and were pretty faded.

I tried a second time with a couple pairs of my ds's jeans, but I put some black in too. Didnt go purple this time, and I liked how they turned out -but they still didnt look like regualr denim.

Hopefully someone else will have a suggestion for ya

I tried it once but without much sucsess. The faded areas did even up a bit but the whole thing came out a bit patchy and yes it did dye the thread. They also came out a rather vivid shade of blue, not at all what I had hoped.

For my money they didn't look much better than when I started.

I've done it, but not with good results. The dye makes the jeans all one colour, whereas natural denim gets its colour from the weave - hope you know what I mean.

Thanks for all the responses everyone! It sounds like I might not get the results I am hoping for. Maybe there is a reason I have been hesitating!

Laughing Hyena, did the brown thread come out blue, or just a weird shade of brown?

As far as I remeber it was blue, just not the same blue as the jeans.

Oh, okay, blue. Bummer. Thanks LH. That cements my decision to just wear my favorite faded jeans the color they are now. I like the brown thread, so there wont be any dyeing going on around here. Thanks for all the input everyone

I could see trying to dye faded jeans a different color, but not trying to make them look like "normal" denim. I've stamped designs on jeans before. That looked nice. I used carved wood blocks (like Eastern Indian fabric is done with) and fabric paint.
