Could my milk sup decrease sooo much sooo fast?

DS is just over 2 wks old. I have been EBF since birth...well today we've had nothing but problems...he becomes frustrated, has been nursing every 20-25 min and when I attempted to pump...nothing came out of either breast. Could have I have lost my supply already, or is it that perhaps I am not producing enough?

Please help?? I would hate to go FF but if I have to I will..I just would really rather maintain my BFing since I EBF my DD for 18 mo.

Some women don't respond well to a pump. It could just be a growth spurt. How are his diapers?

No changes in his diapers...all seems well in that department. What worries me most is that he is getting SO angry when he nurses and my nipples are so tender now because he is so forceful.

If he's still having enough diapers I would guess it's not a supply problem. Hang in there- a lot of babies have a growth spurt at about 2 weeks.

Drink plenty of water. Eat some oatmeal. Get some mother's milk tea.

What type of pump did you try? Did you try to use it before or after he nursed? How long did you attempt to pump for? Have you looked at your diet for the past couple days? Anything that might be bugging your ds in it, like chocolate, caffine, etc?

Here's info on determing if you have a low supply:

I doubt that is the problem if there's no change in his diapes.

Read this to figure out why your DC is fussy. It could even be OVERsupply (forceful letdown)

Thank you all, I am hoping DH can take me to whole foods today (new to area, he knows how to get here...lol) To pick up some Mothers Milk Tea. Since DS is between 2 & 3 wks I am hopeful this is a growth spurt. I tired to give him a bottle with some pumped milk from last week and he completely refused the bottle, but latched to the breast for a good 10 min.

I can't help but wonder a bit if perhaps I broke my pump the last time I washed it...(it's the first yrs manual pump) b/c I have since noticed (while messing with it a bit) that it doesn't appear to be creating a suction...I dunno but for now we will just keep doing what we have to do...

Thanks again...

PUT AWAY THE BOTTLES. Do not even consider them. They are the enemy at this stage of the game.

Keep nursing him as much as he wants: this sounds like a growth spurt to me. Don't try to gauge your milk supply based on what comes out when you pump: your baby is far more efficient at removing milk from your breasts than a pump!

Just stay calm and keep at it. Make sure that your latch is right - latch is key!

I would not even worry about trying to pump right now. Just let him nurse as much as he wants. Don't watch the clock.

sounds like classic growth spurt to me too. i second the water, the oatmeal, the tea, and the relaxing

those first few months are challenging. it gets sooooo much easier after they stop growing like mad and you get into a groove. seriously.

hang in there!
