Nicole, here's a funny picture of Harper and Olivia! Hope that's Ok to post some with O.in there. If not, we'll take it right down. He got some really cute ones of Olivia alone, so I'll have him throw them in a Shutterfly gallery or something so you can grab them if you want.

Digging this up from pg 3...

I am frustrated by sunscreen. I am trying to find a baby sunscreen for P and I am so confused. I would like to just keep the California Babies which I bought but DH freaked over the price. I then bought Blue Lizard (which he is ok with and is a non-chemical sunscreen) but it has parabens. Perhaps there is no perfect sunscreen? I did buy a sunhat and shirt so we shouldn't have to use too much sunscreen this summer anyway. But I'm annoyed by the seeming complexity of this decision.

*begin rant*
And I am also annoyed w/ DH. This is just an example of the way we sometimes disagree. I don't care if California Babies is $9 more than Blue LIzard. I'm not going out to lunch this week, so there's your $9. But he doesn't think like that necessarily. And when it comes to bike stuff, OMG, he will spend $$$$. I am the mean wife who won't let him spend $300+ on stuff for a SECOND bike (he already has a $1300 bike, and I and SS each have one too) when I'm trying to pay off debt and am denying myself other stuff.
Ok. *end rant.*

P's sleep has been weird, yesterday he did take 2 naps but then wouldn't go to bed until 10 and every time he goes to bed late he wakes up early. : what is up with that? I guess the one nap day is better-- then he goes down around 7:30 and is up again 12 hours later. He seems to sleep more soundly, too.

I'm really enjoying watching him play. He entertains himself more than he used to. He's discovered light switches (he can stand on the couch-- which he gets up on by himself-- to turn one off but hasn't figured out how to turn it on yet) and he likes to put things in containers and then dump them out. He laughs at the fans (and it's funny to see his little baby hair blowing in the breeze!) and the purple ball, of which he was previously afraid, is now his best friend.

Anyway, off to work. I hope all of you are well.

We have words like "noon" ? "duh" and other cute things that seem to be unrelated to English. BUT, he will say "dada" and when DH responds, he'll let out a string of words that makes you realize he's discussing philosophy with you though you unfortunately can't understand his thoughts.

And, since I"m having so much fun conversing with myself...

Rant #2.

For a week or so I have developed some sort of weird protruding stomach which can only be described as a paunch. I think it is now gone but I am puzzled and really annoyed. I supposedly (according to the "charts" which take into account my frame size) am supposed to weigh 35 lbs less. :
So I need to lose weight but I don't think it will be fun, and that irritates me.

End rant.

Thanks for listening/reading/ignoring me.

About sunscreen, if you have insurance that covers dermatology and prescriptions, you should try to get pure zinc as a sunscreen. It leaves you looking a bit white, but it's the best thing you can use. I consider myself an expert on matters of sunscreen. Or, at least look for a sunscreen whose main ingredient is zinc.

We had the night from hell last night. Poor Lu was waking, oh, about every twenty minutes crying. She had a pretty high fever, which is gone now. She's still pretty cranky and congested, but did wake up smiling.

Gotta go tend to her.

last night i had a miracle baby. she slept for 3-4 hours at a time. I of course... could not. Lots onmy mind. will post about it soon. I think we have 3 teeth on the horizon, but for some reason, the universe gave me a break
last night. she didn't go down till nearly 10:30 but she slept til9 am (as did I). woohoo! I'm fine with a late baby but i'd like late mornings too.

Sunscreen.. ugh. i am about to get on that boat. I just set up a kiddie pool in the back yard, and it looks like we're gonna need it this week. it's supposed to be in the 90s.

I need to get my butt in gear and start planning a birthday party. dang.

Jessica, i'm sorry your dh is such a dorkface. sometimes men get their priorities all screwy. at least he doesn't want to spend money on a stripper... i mean the bike is his mode of transport, and how he gets out and about with P, right? it's family related at least. you shouldn't go without, but you're the one who seems to know have better priorities. one battle at a time, i guess.

ps. hugs to you and lu. do you need anything?

K does better at night if she only has one nap too. Sad for me though, because I could get a lot done during that second nap.

We use Aveeno spray on sunscreen for me and for K.

Hooray!!

So DH got home last night. And Katie "found" him in the bed this morning when she woke up. She had the biggest grin, and now she won't leave his side. So cute. I can tell him that she misses him until my face is blue, but the way she's acting today makes it undeniable for him. Love it.

Hi all - I haven't been around these parts in months, but I thought I'd read back a page or two and update:

Naps: still have two here, morning is longer than the afternoon one..

Teeth: Still six - 4 top, 2 bottom.

Weight: he's 23 lbs.

Walking: Veeerrrry close! He will walk several steps forward with his hands being held, and will stand on his own for a few seconds.

Swimming: Went for the first time about six weeks ago in PHX and again yesterday - he loves it! What a little fish. He has a little floaty ring he sat in yesterday while I pulled him around.

Haircuts: Had his first official cut not done by Mom - makes him look like such a grown-up boy!

Bad Mommy Moment: Shut his right index finger in the back door last week and had to go to the ER. He lost the nail, but it will grow back. I feel so awful. He was really good at the hospital though - docs all commented on how calm he was and didn't cry.

Gabriel's birthday is Thursday! I'll try to post some bday pictures.

Take care, everybody!

not much to report.

s2 no longer likes mama milk. i offer it and she throws the bottle at me. she wants cow's milk. guess i'll build up a freezer stash for j.

her black eye is almost totally healed, and she pulled up on furniture to get something above her head yesterday. she has suddenly discovered there is a world above our knees.

j is rolling from back to belly, and gets very angry when he wakes up on his tummy. he's incredibly smiley, babbles constantly, and laughs fairly regularly. it's awesome.

the first 6wks were hell, as s2 adjusted to her brother. then the next 2 months were bliss. now, we're back to "how the heck do i do this?!" as s2 becomes more mobile and is getting in to every stinking thing. so here we go.

still aching for another baby. probably never gonna happen.

The sunscreen I think we've settled on isn't perfect but the main ingredients are zinc and titanium oxide. Sound ok?

Isn't it the truth, though, you get used to one "routine" and then the baby/babies decide to switch it up on you. I'm sorry Sam no longer likes mama milk. Have you been eating something different lately that might have changed its taste?
Either way, you've done so well by her.
regarding another baby. I take it B isn't interested? I know he was going to have a V...
How did his court case go? (you can PM me if you'd rather)

Yup, zinc and titanium oxide, perfect!

Sarah, sorry you're having a tough time.

We've been giving a little bit of cow milk to baby ant too.

I just can't keep up with her. pumping is going downhill. She can now drink 24 oz of bm during the night alone! There is no way for me to pump that amount and still be at school and work.

I feel like such a failure on the booby-juice thing. I want to give up. I know...I suck but I'm not sure I can keep pumping day and night.

When is it time to be done? sorry to rant

what a cutie! She has very expressive hands while dancing!!! Lil ant is more of a butt dancer than a hand dancer.
Harper danced along with Lu! So cute. Lu really has the hand motions going on.

Some teeth cut through and stuff. Like 3 in a big row on the bottom right side. I don't even know which ones those are. WTH? Maybe it's one giant fang?

Sunscreen: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wor...uery=sunscreen, that is the Environmental Working Group's site to make you never want to put anything on your body again. It looks like California Baby stuff scores the safest. That Kabana stuff looks good too. There's another site called something like safecosmetics.org, but I haven't looked up sunscreen on there yet. We tried Burt's Bees, and it smelled so strongly that we all felt ill.

Thanks for the photo compliments. Ryan has been picking more of her summer clothes. He said it was his turn. Fair enough. I usually put her in a dress over pants, but he likes shorts and tops.

She just ripped a page out of a book and turned around and said "booshk?" That's her word for book. Well, it WAS a book until you remodeled!

Oh, no morning nap. It's been about 50/50 the last week. I think she is ready to go to one. I tried today since she was acting tired, but all she wants to do is lie down, and then she reanimates and is good for hours more. This means I get less work done, that's fer sure.

Does this coincide with the night screaming/ear infection? If she has a dairy sensitivity, those are definitely ways it can manifest. Dairy also aggravates reflux in many cases. I hear what you're saying about not being able to pump enough, and I do think it's OK to be done for everyone's sanity. Do what you can, don't kill yourself. The trick is to find something she can take that won't upset her. I guess it would be weird to add hypoallergenic formula at this age, but you could try goat milk, since that only has one protein in common with cow milk. There's also recipies for fortifying rice milk. Might be worth trying out things other than cow milk in case that is what's been bugging her? Most people wouldn't have done everything you've already done for her. You're a good mama!

They're doing ok. Thanks for asking.

SIL's pumping every two hours almost around the clock and freezing milk for Jesse. Physically she's recovering really fast (ah, to be 14 again). Emotionally, it's really hard for her to be away from her baby at all, and MIL decided that she needed to start her tutoring again 4 days after giving birth and that she'd have to work more around MIL's work schedule to get up to the NICU to spend time with him. : That meant being away from Jesse for 18 hours yesterday. That's really hard for her. I've told her she can call me anytime and I'll come and bring her up there. I also have a bag of quality chocolate covered pretzels stashed to give to the nurses the next time I'm up there. I have no problems with bribes if they'll help ensure that SIL and her baby will be treated well.

Jesse was able to go to room air and a cannula for extra oxygen after a day and he seemed really happy to lose the throat tube. He still has a small tube going to his stomach so they can start getting him used to getting a little mama's milk and an IV in his foot, he's in a closed isolette, and he's under bili lights for a bit. But he's breathing well and is staying stable; the nurses are saying he's one of the strongest 33 weekers they've seen yet. They're working toward SIL being able to hold him more often and him trying to latch on and learn how to nurse soon. Maybe later this week?

No kids under 12 are allowed in the NICU, so I'm trying to juggle ways to go visit as we can without traumatizing Qualia and Sebastian. Bastian's gotten really clingy this past week -- probably because he just started walking(!!!) -- so it's hard. Being at SIL's labor and delivery has brought back a lot of emotion from Bastian's birth and NICU stay that I thought I'd laid to rest. It's making me a little crazy, but I'm hanging in there. Once things settle down a little, I'm carving out time for a good chocolate binge and cry fest.

I think we may be ditching the morningnap too. since she has been sleeping later (the past few days not up till 9)... then naps from 12:30 or 1 till 2or so.... I gues it's ok... if i know we'll have a consistent nap at least she won't be cranky.

I have a headache and have friends coming to "swim" in the back yard. Candice, if your nuggets are well, come over!!

I wish we could come over. Lu is still sick.
