Question for you no-pooers

Thread Starter
I am thinking of trying the no-poo route. I've read the LONG threads on this site about it, and I think I have a pretty good handle as to what i am to do for myself.

However, I am also thinking of switching my 4 and 2 yo daughters to no-pooing. Has anyone tried this? What do I do?
Along with that, my newborn....what do you use for shampoo? What about a skin moisturizer...jojoba and lavender?

thanks for helping a newbie here!

I just started myself and plan on trying it with the kids this week. My biggest concern is stingy eyes. I would use it with them the same way I do it for me. A BS scrub paste into the scalp, finger comb through the hair, sprintz with white vin scented with lavender EO and rinse. As far as a newborn, I wonder if they need pooing at all!? I would think just some BS maybe every once and awhile. I guess some very diluted castile soap like bronners maybe...

I'm not a no-pooer (didn't have much luck or the will power to push through the icky stage, but I am cutting back to every three days and plan to go every four soon), but for my infant ds I just don't wash his hair unless dh complains that it looks greasy He has a decent head of hair at nine months and I've only washed it maybe twice since he came home from the NICU, otherwise just rinse with water. I use a tiny bit of Dr. Bronners baby soap. My ds1 has a rediculous amount of hair and he's only washed every now and then (whenever dh decides to do it in the shower).

I use water, nothing else, on the kids. My 13 month old has NEVER had ANY soap or any shampoo touch her. Water only. She has the softest skin, too! My older kids have been poo-free for ages. It works fine with just water. I have tried going no-poo for myself several times, I don't last long. Will keep trying though!

i'm sorry to bust in here, but i have to say when i saw this thread i somehow thought there was a group that had figured out how to keep their kids from going #2

Yeah, that. We don't use shampoo on 8 month old dd either. A good rinse is all she needs to get off the spit-up, pee, and poop.

dd (7) uses no-poo sometimes. she uses it just like i do. baking soda paste scrubbed into the scalp and apple cidar vineagar rinse. ds (18months) uses regular baby shampoo.

My 11 yr old is switching over to vinigar rinses right now. It's working great for him. For my littler ones (3 and nearly 2), I usually use water. I've used bronners occasionally if they are really dirty. Natural real soap for bodies when needed, but as others have said, mostly water.

For lotions, just get any pure butter. Cocoa, shea, whatever your nose likes. My littlest has my dry skin, so occasionally needs some, I just soften it between my hands and then give him a lil massage, he loves it, and feels great. He only needs it in the winter though.

Btw, this is for the boys with thick, coarse hair. All but one have enough to get VERY tangly and this works better than anything else we've tried

I've been no-pooing for about 3 years. My hair needs washing about once a week. Ds (17 months) just gets water most of the time, and occasionally (like, once every 2 weeks) I'll wash his hair with California Baby super-sensitive shampoo and body wash. I VERY rarely use anything but water on his body.

Me Too!!!

For my babies its just water. I started to worry maybe its gross, because of all of the poop, spit up (2 month) and all of the dirt and food products (2.5 years) that my children get on them. But, they look and smell clean, so I am not so worried. I am planning on cleaning out my fat baby's folds before the weekend. He has some breast milk funk building up in there! I will use a diluted bonners, or my castile soap from Trader Joes.

As for lotions, they don't use them. If my DD has a patch of dry skin I usual put some Lansinoh in there before bedtime.

Amanda
