Just popping in quickly to announce the news of our littlest member. Jack Redmond was born May 1, at 3:40 am. He weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz and was 21 in. long. We are both doing well and I will post a pic when I get a chance.

Birth story:
I had been experiencing prodromal labor since Friday. It would start at midnight and keep me up till about 6 am. and then I would have sporadic contractions throughout the day. Finally Monday I was just so tired that I called my mw and told her what was going on. She had me come in to see if was dilating and to monitor Jack to see if he was ok. My fave mw was working and she gave me the biggest hug when I arrived. She checked my cervix and I was only 2-3cm and still a bit thick. She then hooked up the monitor and Jack was doing well. So she gave me a couple options: 1) taking a sleeping pill to get some rest, or 2) schedule and induction for the next day. Dh and I knew I really just needed the rest so we went for the sleeping pill. Nell, my mw, said "sounds good. I will probably see you later tonight anyways."

We got home at 4pm from the check. I took the sleeping pill and was asleep in no time. I woke up around 8:30pm with consistent, and painful contractions. Thaddeus said to try to rest a bit more. So I did and finally by 10:30 we knew it was time to head back to the hospital. We got there and checked in around 11:30. I was 4 cm and so we decided to get the epidural. Never had an epidural before, but I admit it was really nice. Epidural was put in around sometime after 1am. All was going ok except Jack's heartbeat would sometimes drop and not accelerate back up like they wanted so at around 2:30-3am (i can't remember because i never really looked at the clock) she broke my water. It wasn't clear so now the concern was if he had swallowed any meconium. I was 7 cm when she broke my water and it seemed like in no time at all I was at 10cm. She had me push on my side twice, then after 3 contractions while laying on my back he was slowly and peacefully born. It was amazing looking down and just watching him be born. My mw just let me birth him right on the bed, no stirrups. He cried right away on his own, which was wonderful and he never did swallow any meconium (Thank you God)!!! I only needed 3 stitches, which was also an answer to prayer, because in the past I had always had an episiotomy, and one of the mw's thought I would rip open like a zipper.

He is nursing like a champ, and is such a sweet content little guy. Dh was ready to have another baby just only an hour after Jack was born. I will admit, I don't think we are done like we thought. It was truly the best and most peaceful birth that I had experienced.
