Here's a review article of these sorts of sites.
Basically bloggers get paid for mentions of products in their blogs. The companies make it clear that it is a sponsored mention and bloggers are apparently free to be honest with their reviews.
I have a blog but I am actually thinking of advertising my website through a service like this.
Ideally we would have here on MDC the trading post equivalent for link exchanges or product placement. With all the bloggers blogging and all of the diapers and slings to be sold there would be a lot of opportunity.
