Can anyone recommend a good one? TIA.

Oh yeah and, what sort of composting system is good for mountain living?; with cold snowy winters, hot dry summers, I do have a yard, and space indoors too.
I was looking at these: http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/44-0108

I have this one here:

I like it - simple and to the point.

I just bought that last composter you listed. I bought one for my father-in-law, and I liked it so much I got myself one. In areas that tend to be more cold, be sure to get a dark colored (preferably black) one to attract more heat.

I just noticed that the company you are looking at for the composter charges more than what I paid for mine. Here is a link to the one I bought:

Thanks Zamber!
Do you know if I can compost outdoors in the winter? I have a sheltered place to do it.

I do. It just doesn't break down as quickly as it does in the summer.

The only book I have is called Delia's Kitchen Garden. It's more about gardening, but there's a nice chapter on composting in it- it was plenty of info for me to get started.

If you want to try worm composting, there's a good book called Worms Eat My Garbage.

You can add to the bin, but it won't do too much until spring. It goes dormant if internal temperatures drop below 50 degrees. So, during winter you can stock up on your materials, and once they thaw out in the spring, you are all set to go. You can also set up a worm bin in the house (I want one, but DH would freak out ). The book I mentioned does give some basics of vermicomposting if you decide to give it a try.

I love the Rodale Book of Composting: Easy Methods for Every Gardener.

It is very complete. For some, very technical, but I need that.
