B-day present for a 16 yr old girl and 12 yr old boy?

Help!!! lol I need to be frugal lol. What can I make for them? I can sew, paint, and crochet. The girl is my very materialistic sil and the boy is my nephew, who's happy with anything 'cause his auntie's cool

would you sil be totally shocked by cloth pads? that was my 1st thought to make for her.

what about crochet lessons? for both they pick the yarn you help/teach them make a hat/bag/belt whatever they want.

could do the same with sewing, let them pick pattern and material and you help them make the item, both a material gift and a time spent together gift.

For the teenage girl: What about headbands? J Crew and the Gap are both showing all sorts of fabric headbands for summer. You could use them for inspiration (maybe duplicate their fabric selections...?)

OR a little totebag purse. Many of the teens around here are toting little summer bags in fun fabrics, with monograms.

I'll try to think about what a boy might like...I have girls and am girly-girl myself, so thinking of boy stuff is hard for me!

Great ideas! Thank you! My mil was curious about the cloth pads, I was going to make her some for her birthday in nov. maybe my sil will be interested by christmas.... They are pretty open to new ideas so I'll have to try it out and see with my mil.

For the 12-year-old boy, what is he into? I made my ds1 (age 12) a couple of super-cool pillows for his bed for Christmas. He loves Star Wars, so one I just used Star Wars fabric for. The other I used black fabric and embroidered a picture of Boba Fett (his favorite character). There was a tutorial on craftster about it - you just using coloring pages off the net for your embroidery pattern.
